We are excited to offer our patients with fungal or damaged toenails the option of Keryflex nail restoration.

Have your nails summer ready in under an hour.

KeryFlex Nail Restoration is a painless, in-office application that restores the appearance of an individual’s natural nails.

This system allows for a certified provider to remodel an individual’s damaged nails affected by fungus, defects and trauma.

The composite resin creates a flexible, but durable, non-porous nail that allows the remaining natural nail to grow.

The KeryFlex nail is an immediate cosmetic improvement providing a natural-looking nail. It is unaffected by acetone, nail polishes or detergents.

Interested in Keryflex? Call our office at 512-593-2949 for more information.

We are excited to share that we am now offering KeryFlex nail restoration in the office.

Many patients experience anxiety or embarrassment due to the absence or damaged appearance of toenails as a result of trauma or toenail fungus. Prior to KeryFlex, I didn’t have a solution to addressing the cosmetic appearance of the nail(s) while treating fungus or waiting for a new nail to grow.

How does KeryFlex work:

✅Offers another option for patients with damaged toenails
✅Delivers immediate and significant cosmetic enhancement after one visit
✅Looks and feels completely natural
Provides for cosmetically pleasing nails during most antifungal treatment regimens
✅Unlike rigid acrylic nails, flexibility allows KeryFlex restored nails to bend with the natural movement of toes and feet
✅Is compatible with human tissue and will not irritate or cause further damage to the underlying nail or skin
✅Allows for the remaining nail to grow out naturally
✅Is non-porous and will not allow moisture to pe*****te between the natural and prosthetic nail
✅Applied in the sanitary setting of a foot care provider
✅Is NOT affected by acetone, nail polishes or detergents

Applications are done in the office, take 30-60 minutes depending on the number of nails being treated and lasts 6-8 weeks.

Check out this video of Dr. Sharkey restoring the nail of one of our medical assistants who lost her toenail several years ago!

Flintstone Feet? What the heck?

According to urban dictionary, someone who has Flintstone Feet is someone that can walk on anything barefoot.

And barefoot walking is something we are hearing about so much more since the onset of the pandemic and work-from-home and virtual learning.

Not going into the office, why wear shoes? Not going to school, why wear shoes? Gyms closed, no need for running shoes.

Since March, work, home, and exercise routines have dramatically changed for most people. Sitting at home in front of a computer logged into zoom all day doesn’t exactly require shoes. But is all this time at home without shoes causing more foot pain?

YES! We are seeing an uptick in cases of plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain), Achilles tendinitis and Achilles tendinosis. One of the first questions now is, tell me how your daily activity and show wear has changed.

Barefoot walking, especially on hard surfaces, can result in arch, forefoot, and heel pain. In extreme cases, when there is too much stress on joints, ligaments and tendons, collapse of the arch can be seen.

So while we continue to work and school from home, remember the importance of supporting your feet!

Dr. Sharkey’s favorite work from home shoes/sandals are Oofos (link below). They have incredible arch support and cushioning and come in slide/clog/flip-flop and tennis shoe varieties.

Dr. Sharkey dropping in today to share a little Wednesday wisdom! Hope you are having a great week!

Can I Wear Flip Flips?
This is a question I hear nearly every day in the summer.
And my answer is a “yes, but...” answer! Flip flops should be used for: shower shoes in public showers, to walk around hotel rooms (who knows what lives in that carpeting), at water parks, at the beach and for days you don’t have to do a lot of walking.
Flip flops should never be worn when riding a bike, on a scooter or for kiddos just learning to walk. I only let Meredith get her first pair of flip flops (without a strap on the back) this year for use at swimming lessons.
Ready for the GOOD NEWS! There are some really great and supportive flip flops out there (hint: Not the $2 ones you find in the bargain bin).
It’s summer and it’s hot. I get it, your toes want to be free!
My absolutely favorite sandals/flip flops are
We wear Oofos around the house and to the lake. I recommend them to all of my patients. They are made to reduce pressure on the feet and joints and provide arch support!

Wearing flip flops is okay, just choose wisely!
