🦟 August 20th is Mosquito Awareness Day! 🦟

Did you know that mosquitoes can transmit heartworm disease to both dogs and cats?

When an infected mosquito bites a pet, it can pass tiny heartworm larvae into the bloodstream. In dogs, these worms can mature and live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing serious and potentially life-threatening damage.

Cats are considered an atypical host for heartworms, which means the parasite does not develop as easily as it does in dogs. However, even a small number of heartworms can cause significant damage.

❤️ The good news is that heartworm disease is preventable. Year-round heartworm prevention is a safe and effective way to protect both dogs and cats from this mosquito-borne disease.

This Mosquito Awareness Day, take a moment to make sure your pets are up to date on their heartworm prevention. A simple preventive can make all the difference.
