I let a little injury turn into self doubt and eventually, depression. I lost interest in everything including my martial arts training.

Back to me and the reason I do what I do. For health.

A friend of mine once gave me the name, The Kung Fu Gentlemen. If you think about it, both words mean the same thing.

Respect, honor, poise are characteristics of someone who practices any martial art and the act of being a gentleman.

Kung Fu is a way of life, as is being gentlemanly. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š

OUCH!!

While I’m a huge advocator of β€œage is just a number” there are some undeniable things you experience later in life.

Such as slow healing of injuries!!

Even though it pains me, I have stepped away from a lot of training due to injury. As much as I want to push forward, the smartest thing I can do is back off and slow down.

And while I have an option for steroid shot therapy, I learned enough on self healing. The good news is, I’m probably about 72% better!

Mind you, this was a nothing serious, just double tennis elbow that travelled into my forearms and was really prohibiting my ability to lift weights. Point is, I didn’t want to further harm myself by being my normal go go go self.

DOES THAT MEAN I STOPPED?

Hell no! From a martial arts perspective, I’ve been focusing on my Tai Chi, Qigong, slowed down technique training of Wing Chun and Wushu, and unique sword training to help me strengthen my arms.

I’ve also reverted back to some weight techniques I learned when I had tendinitis. Because of that, I’m now able to lift lighter weights.

The message here: self care and know when to slow down. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š

It is one thing to know how to defend yourself. It is another to know restraint and de-escalation. That is the mark of a true warrior.
