Beyond the Curve: Understand What Is Shaping the Pattern
A spinal curve can be measured in degrees.
But a person cannot be understood in degrees alone.
Posture is a three-dimensional strategy the body uses to stay upright, keep the eyes level, breathe, balance, transfer weight, and move through gravity.
That strategy involves more than the spine. It includes the cranium, jaw, rib cage, diaphragm, pelvis, and the way the feet meet the ground.
When one region loses options, another often adapts to keep the whole system functioning.
From this perspective, scoliosis is not simply an isolated curve. It is one visible part of a larger postural pattern.
Within the osteopathic cranial model, Harold I. Magoun described cranial and spinal scoliosis as inseparable—directing attention toward how cranial asymmetry and spinal organization relate.
That does not mean every curve has one cause or should be forced into correction.
It means there may be more to assess, more relationships to understand, and more opportunities to support movement, breathing, balance, and comfort.
At Cranio Group, we look beyond the shape of the spine to understand how the whole body is participating in the pattern.
