10 things women over 50 don’t leave to chance on Sunday 💛

1. We don’t start Monday without a few easy protein options ready. Eggs, cottage cheese, chicken—keep it simple.
2. We don’t turn Sunday into one last “I’ll start tomorrow” day. We can enjoy the weekend without needing a Monday restart.
3. We make room for rest and a little movement. Some Sundays that’s a walk; others, we need the nap.
4. We don’t let an empty refrigerator decide what’s for dinner. A few groceries and a loose plan go a long way.
5. We put our workouts on the calendar before the week fills up with everyone else’s plans.
6. We don’t stay up half the night trying to make the weekend last longer. Monday comes either way. 😂
7. We don’t leave every little task for Monday morning. Set out the clothes, find the keys, fill the water bottle.
8. We pick a few priorities for Monday instead of writing a to-do list that requires three of us.
9. We don’t punish ourselves for what we ate over the weekend. No skipping meals or trying to “earn it back” with exercise.
10. We don’t put ourselves at the bottom of next week’s list. Our needs deserve a spot, too.

A little Sunday prep leaves more room to breathe during the week.

Food ready. Movement planned. Time to rest.

We’ve spent plenty of years taking care of everyone else. We deserve some of that care, too. 💛

What’s one thing you do on Sunday that makes your Monday easier?

Our remodeling project included a major improvement for our floors. The red oak hardwood floors were sanded and stained and I couldn’t stand the black floor vents. They stuck out like a sore thumb. So it took me 10 minutes of works with some drying time in between but now they blend in beautifully with the floors.
Here’s how I did it.

My floors are red oak so I got red oak unfinished floor vents. If you have white oak get those. The color will match best if you use what ever your floors actually are.

1. Lightly hand-sand with a 220-grit sanding sponge, following the wood grain. Gently smooth the top, edges, and between the slats without rounding the corners.
2. Remove all sanding dust with a lint-free cloth.
3. Apply your matching floor stain, then wipe off the excess evenly. Let it dry completely.
4. Apply the oil-based polyurethane. We discussed Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane Warm Satin spray: use 3–4 very light coats, rotating the vent to reach the slats and edges. Keep the damper mechanism uncoated.
5. Lightly scuff between coats with 220–320 grit, following the can’s drying instructions. Remove the dust each time. Don’t sand the final coat.

We did a custom floor-stain blend. It is 50% Provincial, 25% Special Walnut, and 25% Weathered Oak. So I measured it using a scale with these ratios.

Now my floor vents are seamless with the rest of the floor.

A fall soup your family will ask you to make again.
You can make this in your Instant pot, on your stove even your crock pot! Today I made it on my stove because I’m loving my new Straub Dutch oven

Ingredients:
1lb of ground sausage
Crushed Red peppers 1/4 teaspoon (more if you like spicy)
1/2 of med onion
Oil to coat
1 cup of water
7-10 small to medium red skin potatoes
2 cans of low sodium corn
2 cans of creamed corn
One can evaporated milk
1 tbsp Flour (mixed with water to make paste)

Add oil coat to the bottom
Add onions, sausage and crushed red peppers
Cook till sausage is done
Add potatoes (cut to bite size) and corn and 1 cup of water or broth
If on the stove boil if for a bit to cook the potatoes then let it simmer.

For your instant pot to manual for 10 minutes

Quick release or after it’s done simmering add broth or water with a tablespoon of flour to thicken it and the evaporated milk for a cream base.

I always use an Immersion blender for a creamer soup but you don’t have too.
Happy Fall!

I can’t believe this is the same kitchen. 🥹🤍

This remodel has been months of decisions, second guessing myself, changing my mind, waiting on things to arrive…and yes, even a few moments when I was convinced we had made a HUGE mistake. 😂

But now I walk into this kitchen and it finally feels like our home.

I wanted it to feel warm, welcoming and lived-in — not like a showroom. A kitchen where our kids come home and gather around the island, where we cook dinner, have friends over, drink coffee in the morning and actually LIVE.

And somehow, all those hundreds of little decisions came together. 🤎

I’ve gotten so many questions about everything we used, so I’ve put together the details — appliances, lighting, fixtures, organizers, decor and all the little things that helped make this kitchen ours.

And I’m definitely not done sharing. I have SO much remodel content coming — what I love, what I’d change, organization, sources and all the behind-the-scenes decisions.

This before & after still gets me. 🥹

The 7 things to start a home gym! Resistance training is more important now, these will get you started. Start with some dumbbells and this grows as you gain strength. The resistance bands will provide resistance as provide a variety for push and pull. The exercise ball gives you lots of options for moves. The adjustable bench is the only one you need. Getting your cardio and steps in on this treadmill is a must have. Having an incline option is great. I love that I can watch my shows, read or take a class with an instructor!
