Yesterday, two little ghost tattoos carried a whole lot of love. 👻🎀

I had the pleasure of tattooing a local woman who recently received a devastating breast cancer diagnosis and has undergone a full mastectomy. Her husband came to support her and got the same cute ghost tattoo. A small, sweet reminder that she isn’t facing this alone.

She is a mother, a grandmother, and a woman working full time while preparing for seven months of chemotherapy, beginning in just two weeks. Please keep this dear client and her family in your thoughts. 💗

Behind every pink ribbon is a real person, a family, and a life changed. Families facing cancer deserve meaningful support including financial support so they can focus on treatment without the added fear of keeping everything else afloat.

As a paramedical tattoo artist, I also want people to know about the options available after surgery and treatment, when their skin has healed and their medical team has cleared them:

What Does Ar**la Tattoo Healing Look Like?

Let’s talk about healing after an ar**la restoration tattoo. 🎀

Just like other forms of tattooing, your ar**la restoration will not look exactly the same on Day 1 as it will once completely healed.

Immediately afterward, pigment can appear brighter or darker than the eventual healed color. During the initial healing period, some flaking or peeling can occur as the skin recovers.

The surface of the skin commonly heals over approximately the first couple of weeks, but the pigment underneath continues to settle afterward. Your final color shouldn’t be judged immediately.

During healing, following your aftercare instructions is extremely important. That means keeping the area protected as directed and avoiding picking, scratching or soaking the tattoo while it heals.

Depending on your skin and treatment history, more than one session may be necessary to achieve the desired healed result.

Restoration is a process not something we rush. 💗

Does Radiation or Scar Tissue Matter?

Not all skin responds to tattooing the same way especially after breast cancer treatment. 💗

Surgery, scar tissue and radiation can change the characteristics of the skin. Radiation, in particular, can affect the skin and its ability to heal, which is one reason your medical history is important when considering ar**la restoration.

Scar tissue may also accept and retain pigment differently than untreated skin.

That doesn’t automatically mean restoration can’t be performed. It means your skin deserves to be evaluated individually rather than treated with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Depending on your history and healing, medical clearance may be requested before proceeding.

You’ve already asked your body to heal from so much. Restorative tattooing should respect that. 🎀

“How soon after breast reconstruction can I have my ar**la tattooed?”

This is one of the most important questions to ask and there isn’t one timeline that’s right for everyone.

Ar**la restoration should be performed after the surgical area has completely healed and settled. The appropriate timing can depend on the type of reconstruction you’ve had, additional procedures, scar healing, chemotherapy, radiation and your individual recovery.

Some medical guidance describes tattooing beginning several months after reconstruction once healing is complete, while some reconstruction programs recommend waiting longer. That is why I don’t determine readiness by the calendar alone.

If you’ve recently undergone cancer treatment or breast surgery, I may ask you to receive clearance from your surgeon or treating medical team before tattooing.

There is absolutely no reason to rush this part. 🎀

What exactly is 3D ar**la restoration? 🎀

After a mastectomy and breast reconstruction, some people choose ar**la restoration tattooing as one of the final steps of their reconstruction journey.

Using specialized tattoo techniques, pigment, shading and dimension can be used to recreate the appearance of a natural ni**le and ar**la. The tattoo itself is flat, but carefully placed highlights and shadows can create a realistic 3D effect.

Every restoration is different because every body and every breast cancer journey is different. Color, size, placement, skin tone, scar tissue and the client’s personal preferences are all considered when creating the design.

For some, it’s simply the finishing touch they want after reconstruction. For others, it can carry a much deeper meaning another step toward recognizing themselves in the mirror again. 💗

At Luxe Beauty Ink, this is a private, personal process that happens at your pace.

Sometimes rebuilding confidence is part of the healing journey, too. 🎀

At Luxe Beauty Ink in Centralia, Washington, my work goes beyond traditional permanent makeup and tattoos.

I also offer paramedical tattoo services, including ar**la restoration and scar camouflage, for clients who may be navigating changes to their bodies following surgery, illness or trauma.

For someone who has been through breast cancer and breast surgery, these services can represent something much bigger than pigment on skin. My goal is to provide a private, compassionate and judgment-free environment where every client feels heard, respected and supported as they decide what feeling like themselves again means to them. 💗

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 💗

Behind every pink ribbon is a real person, a real family and a story that changed lives.

A woman fighting through treatment.
A survivor learning to love and trust her body again.
A husband, child, parent or friend standing beside someone they love.
And families who continue carrying the memory of someone they lost.

Cancer reaches so much further than the person who receives the diagnosis. It affects entire families, friendships and communities and chances are, nearly all of us have loved someone whose life has been touched by cancer.

This October, Luxe Beauty Ink in Centralia, WA stands with the fighters, celebrates the survivors, honors those we have lost, and recognizes the incredible people who have walked beside them. 🎀

Throughout this month, I want my page to be a place of support, awareness, strength and love.
