What is an Ambu bag?

An Ambu bag -short for artificial manual breathing unit and generically called a bag-valve-mask (BVM) or manual resuscitator—is a hand-held device used to deliver emergency breaths and forced oxygen to a person who is not breathing or is struggling to breathe.

Ambu bags are commonly used in the
follow situations ands settings


Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Used by medics or trained bystanders during cardiac arrest or drowning emergencies.

Respiratory Failure: Applied when a patient stops breathing properly due to severe trauma, drug overdose, or medical distress.

Hospital & Pre-Hospital Care: Routinely utilized in ambulances, emergency rooms, intensive care units, and surgery rooms before mechanical ventilators take over.

PARTS OF AN AMBU BAG

-Self-Inflating Bag: A squeezable rubber or silicone shell that automatically reinflates with air after you press it.Face Mask:
-A cushioned rim that fits over the nose and mouth to form an airtight seal.
-One-Way Valve: A system that directs fresh air into the lungs and vents the person's exhaled carbon dioxide out away from the bag.
-Oxygen Port/Reservoir: An optional attachment that hooks up to an oxygen tank to boost the concentration of delivered oxygen.
