👁️ Ever wake up and your eyes won't even open all the way?

In Chinese medicine, the Liver opens into the eyes. When Liver and Gallbladder heat rises upward, it can show up as excessive eye discharge, redness, irritation, or swollen eyelids.

Other common signs:
• Bitter taste in the mouth
• Constipation or dry stools
• Irritability, restlessness, or a short fuse

🔥 Common triggers:
Too much fried food, spicy food, lychee, longan, durian, alcohol, or warming tonics that don't match your constitution.

Clinically, two formulas are commonly used:
• Xiao Chai Hu Tang (小柴胡湯)
• Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang (竹葉石膏湯)
These formulas help harmonize Shao Yang and bring heat downward.

🌿 Common eye-support herbs:
• Ju Hua (菊花)
• Gou Qi Zi (枸杞子)
• Shi Jue Ming (石決明)
• Jue Ming Zi (決明子)

TCM focuses on clearing heat internally rather than only treating visible symptoms.

💡 Sometimes the eyes are simply revealing what the body has been trying to say.

What if the pain isn't where the real problem begins?

Over 100 practitioners registered for our May 30th live webinar — and the chat was on fire for 3 hours straight.

If you missed it, here's what everyone was talking about.

Ever feel stuck treating the same pain pattern over and over again?

👉 The post-op knee replacement patient whose hip pain develops months later
👉 The C-section mom with persistent low back pain despite repeated local treatment
👉 The athlete whose symptoms continue migrating despite conventional approaches

QualiHerb hosted an NCCAOM/CA CEU webinar featuring dual-licensed Western MD & TCM Surgeon Dr. Hsien-Ming Huang (阿銘師):
《Beyond Pain: Fascial Reconstitution & Structural Alignment》

Dr. Huang shared a fascia-based structural assessment framework focused on tissue glide, fascial continuity, and compensatory movement patterns.

💡 Clinical Highlights
⚡️ Pain location does not always reveal the primary restriction.
In chronic cases, the symptomatic area may simply reflect tension elsewhere along a fascial or mechanical chain.

🪛 One case involved a patient with a history of T12 compression fracture and severe lumbar pain during recovery. Instead of treating the low back directly, Dr. Huang treated a distal restriction along the right hand. The patient demonstrated immediate improvement in squat function and movement quality.

💣 Surgical scars, tumor resections, and orthopedic hardware may alter tissue glide and contribute to long-term compensatory tension patterns.

🛠️ Technique Highlight: "The Screwdriver" Method

Using minimal needle angle and subtle directional control, Dr. Huang demonstrated a gentle needling approach designed to sense and guide fascial release barriers through palpation and tissue glide assessment.
"Needle in. Space opens. Needle out."

💬 One quote that resonated deeply with attendees:
"The human body is the greatest physician. Our role is to restore balance and create the conditions for healing."

🌿 Eye Bags in TCM: It’s Not Just Aging

In TCM, under-eye puffiness isn’t a cosmetic problem – it’s a sign of internal imbalance. The lower eyelids connect directly to the spleen and digestive system. When digestion is weak, fluid accumulates and tissue loses support.

🧬 3 Root Causes

❄️ Cold & Iced Foods
Weaken digestion and slow circulation, leading to fluid retention around the eyes.

🌙 Late Nights & Chronic Fatigue
Overwork damages the spleen. Poor sleep breaks down digestion, circulation, and skin elasticity over time.

⚡ Digestive Weakness
When the spleen and stomach can’t transform nutrients properly, the tissue around the eyes loses firmness.

🩸 TCM Formulas: Tonify Spleen & Qi (健脾補氣)

• Si Jun Zi Tang 四君子湯
• Wu Wei Yi Gong San 五味異功散
• Liu Jun Zi Tang 六君子湯
• Qi Wei Bai Zhu San 七味白朮散
• Xiang Sha Liu Jun Zi Tang 香砂六君子湯
• Shen Ling Bai Zhu San 參苓白朮散

🌿 Herbs for Elasticity & Firmness

• Shan Yao 山藥
• Yi Yi Ren 薏苡仁
• Gou Teng 鉤藤
• Ge Gen 葛根

🛡 Herbs to Prevent Recurring Sagging

• Shao Yao 芍藥
• Shan Zhu Yu 山茱萸
• Wu Bei Zi 五倍子

💡 Simple Lifestyle Shifts

• Cut back on cold and iced foods
• Aim for sleep before 11 PM
• Support digestion consistently – not just occasionally

🌿 Dark Circles & TCM: Brighten from the Inside Out
Dark circles aren't just a sleep problem. In TCM, they point to poor circulation, pigment buildup, and habits that quietly deplete the body over time.

🧬 What's Driving Them?
Cold foods & drinks slow circulation and trap metabolic waste under the eyes
Late nights disrupt repair cycles and increase melanin deposition
Allergies often signal an underlying constitution issue — dark eye corners are a classic sign
Overexertion depletes the resources that keep blood flowing to the face

🩸 Internal Herbal Support
Dan Shen + Jing Jie — moves blood, disperses stagnant pigment
Jie Geng — guides the formula up to the head and eyes
Dang Shen, Yi Ren, Shan Yao — strengthens digestion, improves skin metabolism
Chi Xiao Dou + Dang Gui San — clears dampness, supports healthy circulation

🛡️ Topical Brightening Formula Nicknamed the "Works Every Time Formula" by TCM clinic nurses:
Mix powdered Gao Ben, Bai Zhi & Tian Men D**g with Camellia Oil and apply around the eyes with a soft brush. Tian Men D**g is the star — strongest brightening effect of the three.
Paired with internal herbs: visible results in 1–2 weeks.

💡 TCM works best as a system — herbs, sleep, nutrition, and stress management together.

* Ji Xue Teng + E Jiao
* Ji Xue Teng + Han Lian Cao
* Han Lian Cao + E Jiao
*
🌸 2. Women’s health & Liver Blood deficiency
Formulas like Xiao Yao San or Jia Wei Xiao Yao San clear liver heat, regulate the spleen, relieve stress, and support hair growth.

* Zeng Ye Tang (Yuan Shen, Di Huang, Mai D**g)
* Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang
*
🤯 4. Sleep issues & stress
Combine Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang with Gan Mai Da Zao Tang, Wen Dan Tang, or Bai He Di Huang Tang. Herbs like Bai He, Bai Zi Ren, Yu Jin, Xiang Fu, Gou Teng, and Qin Jiao are added for calming and stress relief.

❄️ 5. Yin deficiency with internal heat (dry, itchy scalp)
Use Sang Bai Pi (from Xie Bai San) to clear lung heat, improve scalp health, and control hair loss.

💊 6. Medication-induced hair loss (e.g., chemotherapy)
Stop the causative drug and use harmonizing formulas like Xiao Chai Hu Tang, Xiao Yao San, Jia Wei Xiao Yao San to detoxify and support recovery.

🫚 7. Topical stimulation
For clogged follicles, apply sliced ginger (Qie Jiang Pian) directly to the scalp to stimulate growth.

💡 Reminder:
TCM emphasizes pattern differentiation. For serious hair loss, consult a qualified TCM practitioner for a personalized formula. ❤️
