Mini education- what is the root chakra?
The root chakra—called Muladhara in Sanskrit—is the first of the seven main chakras.
It is associated with your foundation, both physically and emotionally. It relates to:
* Survival and basic needs (food, shelter, safety)
* Stability and security
* Feeling grounded and connected to the Earth
It’s located at the base of the spine, near the tailbone (coccyx area).
Key associations
* Color: Red
* Element: Earth
* Symbol: A four-petaled lotus
* Mantra (sound): “Lam”
*Crystals: black tourmaline, black obsidian, red jasper, smoky quartz, hematite, garnet
Balanced vs. imbalanced
* Balanced root chakra: You feel safe, stable, confident, and grounded in reality.
* Imbalanced root chakra: You might feel anxious, insecure, restless, or disconnected.
How people work with it
Practices often include:
* Grounding exercises (walking barefoot, spending time in nature)
* Meditation and breathing
* Yoga poses that focus on stability (like mountain pose)
* Affirmations about safety and security
*Reiki, energy healing, sound healing
Think of the root chakra as the base of a building—if it’s solid, everything above it can function more smoothly.
