POV: your nervous system is fried. Because…. ‘gestures at everything’. 🔥 Well, this technique can help nudge your nervous system out of “feral raccoon in a dumpster” mode and back toward calm. 🦝✨

Tiny humans used to self-soothe by rubbing blankets and stuffed animals.
Adults? We aggressively Google symptoms and hold tension in our jaw.

Anyway… here’s your factory reset button. 👂🧠

Plus… no one will even know because what happens in Vagus… stays in Vagus. 😉

Mental illness is like any other illness of the body-diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypertension. And like those, you can’t decide you don’t have it. Thankfully, we have safe and effective treatments. 💊I am less thankful for all of the barriers that prevent people from getting treatment and feeling like themselves again. Well meaning but very confused wellness influencers, haters who think they are above having a mental illness and of course, the gas station hot dog 🌭 that calls himself our HHS secretary telling people exactly the opposite of what science says.

Mental illness isn’t a moral failure. Evidence-based treatment isn’t unsafe or scary. And “mental health awareness” means understanding that mental illness can happen to anyone and is as debilitating as physical illness.

People deserve informed consent.
They also deserve accurate information based on science and grounded in reality.

Equating SSRIs with he**in is a wild take, not remotely supported by any evidence and creates unnecessary fear around treatments that help millions of people function, connect, work, parent, survive, and feel like themselves again.

Mental health conversations should leave room for nuance:
🧠 acknowledging risks
🧠 respecting patient experiences
🧠 AND recognizing the overwhelming data supporting the safety and effectiveness of SSRIs for many people

We can improve psychiatry without abandoning science in the process.

A fully lived life leaves marks.

Not because you did it wrong.
Because you showed up for it.

You loved people. You lost people. You risked things. You changed. You survived versions of yourself that you thought you never would.

Depression isn’t just feeling low.
It’s watching your mind quietly turn against you.

It blurs memory.
It disconnects identity.
It collapses the future into something small and predetermined.

And because it happens from the inside,
it feels like truth… not illness.

If you’ve ever thought:
“I don’t feel like myself anymore”
or
“Maybe this is just who I am now”

That’s not clarity. That’s the condition speaking.

And it’s treatable.

Your friends love you. ❤️
They’ll hype you up, validate you, sit with you in the mess.

But they’re not trained to notice the pattern behind the problem.

Therapy isn’t just talking.
It’s someone listening for the loops you can’t hear anymore.

The way you keep ending up in the same dynamic.
The way your “reasons” might actually be defenses.
The way your coping strategies once protected you… but now keep you stuck.

A good therapist will gently interrupt the story.
Ask the uncomfortable question.
Help you zoom out when you’re deep in it.

Your friends support you.
Therapy helps you understand you.🧠

And those are two very different kinds of care.

Breaking a pattern doesn’t feel like a breakthrough… it feels weird, awkward and wrong.

It’s saying less when you usually over-explain.
It’s not rescuing when you feel the pull to people-please.
It’s starting before you feel ready instead of procrastinating your way into safety.

And your nervous system will protest. Loudly.

Because to your brain, familiar = safe… even when it’s not serving you.

So this work? It’s not about waiting until it feels natural.
It’s about doing the opposite while it feels unnatural… and staying there long enough for your system to realize:

“Wait… we’re actually okay here.”

That tight, itchy, cringey discomfort?
That’s not danger. That’s rewiring.

Repeat the new response.
Sit through the urge to retreat.
Let the wave crest and fall without obeying it.

And slowly, quietly…
what once felt impossible starts to feel neutral.
Then normal.
Then you.

Not because you forced it.
But because you practiced a new way of being—until your brain believed it.

Your brain isn’t broken… it’s just waiting for better WiFi 🧠⚡️

Antidepressants don’t just “boost mood” — they help your brain grow, adapt, and rewire so therapy, life experiences, and healing actually stick for long term gains.

Translation:
✨ more flexibility
✨ less stuckness
✨ increased capacity for joy

aka… we’re not numbing, we’re upgrading.
