There are parts of us that learned very early how to survive.
To be quiet.
To be good.
To keep the peace.
To take care of everyone else.
To hide what felt too messy, too sensitive, too needy, or too much.
And we can spend years trying to outgrow those parts—or judging ourselves when they continue to show up.
But healing isn’t always about getting rid of them.
Sometimes it’s about turning toward them.
Getting curious about what they learned, what they’re protecting, and what they might still need from us now.
Maybe the anxious part needs safety.
The perfectionistic part needs permission to make mistakes.
The people-pleasing part needs to know it’s okay to disappoint someone.
The part that learned to shrink needs permission to take up space.
There’s something powerful about realizing that as adults, we can begin offering ourselves what we may not have known how to ask for then.
We can listen.
We can protect.
We can speak up.
We can choose differently.
We can hold ourselves with a little more compassion.
And maybe healing isn’t about finding some new, brighter version of ourselves.
Maybe it’s about releasing everything that taught us we needed to dim our light in the first place.
You were never meant to disappear in order to belong.
