Why this works ⬇️👀
When we put a MOUNTAIN of our kid’s favorite food on the plate, they go straight for the mac and cheese, fill up quickly, and completely ignore that poor little broccoli sitting there. 🥦😂
BUT when we start with ½ a portion of their favorite food + a small amount of another food, we naturally create a pause in the meal when they run out and ask for more.
And THAT’S your opportunity to get them to notice the other food.
You might say something as simple as:
“Yep! I’ll get you more in just a minute…. I wonder if I can break my broccoli in half”
Or maybe don’t even mention the broccoli at all and see what happens.
And after a minute or so, go ahead and give them more of their favorite food whether they touched the broccoli or not.
✨Because we’re not trying to turn this into a sneaky “try this before you get more mac and cheese” situation✨
You’re just giving them a little opportunity to notice, touch, smell, play with the food, so they can get more comfortable with it over time and eventually eat it.
