Working with kids was only part of what drew Dr. Sara Ritchie to pediatrics.

She also loves working closely with parents and caregivers, answering their questions and helping them better understand their child’s care. “I love educating families!” she shared.

Dr. Ritchie even says she would have been a teacher in another life, so getting to make education part of her work feels especially fitting.

When she’s not caring for patients, she loves spending time with her own family. They enjoy playing games, riding bikes, swimming and watching movies together.

As we continue celebrating Women in Medicine Month, we’re excited to share more about Dr. Ritchie and what she loves about pediatrics and life outside of work!

Behind our No. 9 national ranking for Pediatric Cancer clinical outcomes are people who spend their days caring for kids and families through some of their hardest moments.

Dr. Jackie Kraveka, Dr. Anca Dumitriu and Allie Hanckel are just a few of the team members who make that care possible at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.

The impact goes both ways. Dr. Dumitriu’s “Luke Strong” sneakers honor one of her former patients, a reminder of the relationships that stay with our team long after treatment ends.

During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re proud to recognize the people behind these outcomes and the kids who give this work so much purpose.

They care for patients, answer questions, work closely with families and collaborate with colleagues throughout MUSC Children’s Health.

They’re our advanced practice providers!

These healthcare professionals bring advanced training and expertise to many different specialties and settings, playing an important role in the care kids and families receive every day.

This APP Week, we’ve celebrated with coffee, treats and time together while recognizing everything they bring to our teams.

Congratulations to our University Pediatrics – Northwoods team! 🎉

They recently earned the Advanced Patient-Centered Medical Home designation from the South Carolina Office of Rural Health and the South Carolina Medical Association.

For families, that means having a care team that works together, communicates and keeps each child’s individual needs at the center.

We’re proud to celebrate this recognition and the people behind it!

“My favorite part of day-to-day is working with patients for sure.”

For Dr. Sherif Ibrahim, that also means listening to families, especially when a child can’t yet explain what they’re feeling. What parents and caregivers notice helps him and his team piece together symptoms and figure out the next step.

Dr. Ibrahim directs the Advanced Pediatric Endoscopy Program and Pancreas Center at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. He says helping families through difficult moments is one of the most rewarding parts of his job, and he’s quick to praise the teammates who work alongside him.

“My team is great because they’re resilient. They’re calm under pressure and flexible during times when we need to think outside the box,” he shared.

As we continue celebrating this year’s U.S. News and World Report rankings, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Ibrahim and the many people behind our Pediatric Gastroenterology & GI Surgery program!

For Dr. Nathalie Malcolm, getting to know the people she cares for is one of the things she loves most about being an Internal Medicine-Pediatrics physician.

“What makes Med-Peds special is the opportunity to walk alongside patients as they grow, literally and figuratively, serving as an advocate and partner in preventive care throughout their lives.”

When she’s away from the clinic, you’ll find her in a dance class or at a Broadway show. She also loves spending time with her husband and their dog, Franklin.

As we continue celebrating Women in Medicine Month, we’re recognizing Dr. Malcolm and the many women who devote their careers to improving the lives of children and families at MUSC.

Let’s take a look inside one of our patient rooms at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital!

Each room was created with kids and families in mind, giving them space to settle in, stay close and make it their own while they’re here.

With views of the Charleston Harbor and plenty of room for loved ones to be together, these spaces were designed to bring some of the comforts of home into a child’s stay.

There was a lot to celebrate in our Heart Center this week! ❤️

The Receptions for Research: The Greg Olsen Foundation team joined us Wednesday morning at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital to present a record $400,000 to the MUSC Foundation.

The funds were raised through this year’s HEARTest Yard Celebrity Classic at Kiawah Island Club.

While they were here, Greg spent time with heart patients and their loved ones, visited the family respite space dedicated in honor of his brother, Christian Olsen, and got a special hello from Garth, our Heart Center hospital dog.

This gift will help expand the HEARTest Yard Family Wellness and Resource Center and the mental and emotional support, education and resources it provides to those caring for a child with congenital heart disease.

Thank you to The HEARTest Yard for continuing to stand behind our heart community and the people who care for them every day!

Earlier this week, we took some time to celebrate the people behind an incredible year for MUSC Children’s Health.

Care team members and leaders from across our enterprise came together at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital to honor the expertise and dedication behind eight nationally ranked pediatric specialties.

With our hospital No. 1 in South Carolina for the seventh year in a row and now No. 5 in the Southeast, there was a lot to be proud of!
