Consider the marvel: a twenty-one-hundred-year-old Greek sculpture that has long been regarded as one of the greatest works in the history of art.

For our purposes of the first evening, the Venus de Milo provides us with the opportunity to re-consider the enigmas of beauty, desire, and happiness. Inspired by one of the most influential Greek myths, the polyfabulous story of The Judgement of Paris, the Venus reveals the numinous force of enchantment, as well as the mysterious relationship between love and war.

Our presentation will feature a multimedia show of the history of Alexandros of Antioch’s masterpiece, music and poetry designed to “provoke” (one of the original meanings behind the very word Venus) your own responses to our exploration of the ancient notion of art as a means of further experience beauty in everyday life, such as urban life, nature, relationships, music, language, and our spiritual lives.

Saturday’s workshop is divided into three parts: Inspiration, Perspiration, and Realization. It is designed to inspire if you are stuck, nudge if you are feeling anxiety about what to actually create, and reassure you how vital it is to complete what you have begun because, and here is one of the secrets of the arts, the world is longing for your deepest and clearest creativity.
