PPIs can cause so many problems if taken long term. I see this on the daily. They were never intended to be taken long term. I see so many gut/digestive issues and nutritional deficiencies in people who have been taking them for many years. Creating low stomach acid for a long time creates a cascade of problems.
Did you know that the most reason (not all) for heartburn is actually low stomach acid and not high? Do you drink a lot with meals? Do you lay down immediately after eating? Do you eat until over full? These all increase your chance of having heartburn.
If you have been on a PPI long term, do not stop suddenly because it can cause an extreme acid increase rebound effect. Talk to your doctor about slowly weaning off.
