For years, Butch Dawson pushed through constant back pain until it reached the point where he could barely stand up straight or walk without pain.

After previous treatment failed to fully resolve the issue, Butch turned to Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates in Greensboro, where Neurosurgeon Jeffrey D. Jenkins, MD, FACS, helped identify the true source of the problem and developed a plan to restore stability to his spine.👨‍⚕️🩺

“The morning after surgery, they had me up walking, and I was standing straight. I hadn’t been able to do that in a long time.”

Today, Butch is back to walking miles each day, traveling, hiking, and even Carolina s**g dancing again. 🚶‍♂️🚅🕺

“I didn’t think I would ever be pain-free again. Now, I have my life back.”

That pain shooting down your leg is your body signaling that something deeper is going on, like a disc issue, nerve compression, or spinal degeneration.

The good news is there are effective treatment options, and surgery is not always the first step.

In this video, Physiatrist Dr. John Welshofer, MD explains what sciatica really means, what causes it, and how we approach treatment at Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates through our SpineFirst approach.
