Sometimes, the person you love is exhausted - and somehow your body becomes exhausted right alongside theirs.
Not because you performed the same physical tasks. Because worry is heavy.
Watching someone you love struggle can leave you feeling protective, frightened and helpless. Your mind stays alert even when your body is begging to rest.
Then, without realizing it, sleep becomes your coping mechanism. Your body tries to shut down because your emotions don’t know where else to go.
That’s where I’ve found myself lately. I don’t have a neat lesson or five-step solution today. I’m simply reminding myself - and maybe you - that caregiver fatigue is real. We are not lazy, weak or failing because the weight becomes heavy.
Sometimes, the most honest thing we can say is: “I love them. I’m worried. And I’m tired, too.”
If that’s where you are today, caregiver to caregiver: I see you. 💛
