It's Community Health Worker Week! Yesterday we celebrated the CHWs in our A Guided Journey program not only for that occasion, but also because AGJ is turning 5 YEARS OLD on 8/31! The program was started in partnership with Mecklenburg County Government in response to the disparities in infant health and mortality rates, which have shown improvement, thanks to initiatives like this. Last year, AGJ served 525 families, providing critical home visitation services, resource connection, and ensuring post-partum moms and their babies had a medical home. As if all that isn't enough reason to celebrate, 9 of our CHWs are closing in fast on their doula training, which will only enhance the wonderful care and outcomes for this special program.

Thank you so much to Rep. Alma Adams, Ph.D. and her team for visiting with us last Thursday evening during our National Night Out event. She and her team received a tour from our CEO Tchernavia Montgomery, MSW and she spoke with and gave some remarks to those in attendance. Congresswoman Adams has been familiar with and supportive of our mission, particularly around improving disparities in outcomes for maternal health, for many years. We appreciate her allyship and her time.

Congratulations to our friends at Project 658 on opening this new service. Thank you to High Point University School of Dental Medicine and its students for volunteering their time to serve.

Project 658, an east Charlotte nonprofit that serves immigrant and refugee families, opened a new dental clinic Tuesday to help meet a growing need for affordable dental care.
