How did we get here? How is my last baby off to kindergarten? Everyone warned me it would go so, so fast and they were painfully, acutely right. Even though I knew it would go fast because I had the proof standing right in front of me — proof in the form of toddlers who were no longer babies and big kids who were no longer toddlers — these milestone moments have a way of knocking me off my feet and, truthfully, they hurt. They hurt in the way it hurts when a birthday rolls around and you realize you’ll never have access to the 4-year-old version of your kid again. They hurt in the way your heart squeezes when your child stops saying “lello” and replaces it with the correct but oh-so-grown-up pronunciation “yellow.” Part of me thought today would be a day I’d feel relief. I’ve spent more than 11 years cramming the non-motherhood pieces of my life into small pockets of “me time;” brief windows of free time I’d grasp through nap times, preschool drop offs, gym childcare and occasional help. It felt intense, impossible at times, stressful for sure but, for the most part, absolutely overflowing with joy. It never felt possible for me to have a to-do list with everything checked off but it also didn’t matter because LOOK at what I got to pour my heart into everyday: A family I love in a way I will never be able to capture into words. I read this quote recently that I’ve been thinking about a lot: “The hardest part about parenting is raising the one thing you can’t live without to be able to live without you.” Ooph isn’t that the truth? Because that is the goal, right? To raise kind, confident, loving, hard-working, independent, thoughtful humans who can go out into the world on their own and make a positive impact. Ryan and I have repeatedly talked about how this phase of life we’re living right now is golden to us. We’re holding onto it hard while trying to get better at letting go, little by little. But it sure does wreck me sometimes. For now, I’ll just sit here with wet eyes, feeling so grateful for motherhood and the way I’ve been given the gift of a love so big can make me ache so much. ❤️

Take me baaack! Finally getting around to sharing pics from our trip to São Miguel in the Azores! We selected this destination for a myriad of reasons — a stunning natural landscape, incredible hiking, animal experiences, whale watching + a place largely untouched by mass tourism — and it blew us away!! I just shared waaay too many details about our trip on the blog and if you’d like to read more about it, comment “Azores Itinerary” below and l’ll share it with you (what we loved, didn’t enjoy, and all the nitty gritty)! ☀️🪻🌊🫍🐐🌿🍍

For my full Lisbon recap comment “Lisbon recap” below and I’ll send you my detailed blog post! // We spent a very unexpected 2 days in Lisbon, Portugal en route to the Azores when our travel plans got derailed. Thankfully YOU guys came through and helped us plan a wonderful adventure in Lisbon! If you’re gonna get stranded somewhere, I highly recommend Portugal! 🙃🇵🇹 Sharing some of our favorites from our whirlwind time in Lisbon ➡️ Chiado Hotel (very family friendly, walkable to shops, restaurants and sites), Oceanário de Lisboa (aka the aquarium — our 10 & 7yo’s fav thing we did), Pastéis de Nata (Portuguese custard tarts we could not stop eating), Time Out Market (a great spot we liked enough to visit 2x with a wide variety of incredibly delicious food), a tuk tuk tour (we flew all over Lisbon for an hour and loved this warp-speed way to see the city + learn more about the history), making a game of spotting artwork by Artur Bordalo II (he’s a Portuguese street artist famous for creating massive three-dimensional animal sculptures and murals made entirely out of recycled/discarded materials — I included a pic of his panda here!), tinned sardines + octopus (so good), wandering the streets just to explore and see what popped out at us, a quick day trip to Sintra (a beautiful and charming town 45 min from Lisbon with castles well worth visiting) and gelato, of course! 💛

On Saturday we did our very first YES DAY as a family to celebrate Rhett's preschool graduation + the end of preschool days for our family (cue all the emotions!!!) -- The day ended up being SO fun from start to finish!! I shared all about it on the blog (how we planned it, our Yes Day rules/parameters, etc.) in case you'd like to check it out!!

Have you guys heard of a “Yes Day” for kids? A Yes Day is a day when parents/grownups agree to say “yes” to any kid requests (within reason, of course). Our kids naturally thought this concept was the coolest — our oldest requested a Yes Day a while back after a friend came to school... R...

Our Yes Day from start to finish!!! We loved every second of this day and feel like we are still on a high from all the fun! We did take some time to plan everything out the night before and set some ground rules I think were really helpful — I shared everything in detail on my blog today if you’d like to check it out! Just comment “YES DAY” below and I’ll send you everything!

Today is my birthday and I was talking to Ryan earlier about some of my best memories from last year. One “grief and joy can coexist moment” popped out at me. After our dog died very suddenly, we did almost 2 weeks of family sleepovers with the boys. They slept on our camping mats in our bedroom and we just got through it together. These sleepovers ended up being etched into my heart forever because they led to so many sweet, silly and tender moments. So we did one again last night and we’ll do it again tonight to sandwich my 41st birthday in sleepovers. ❤️ Life isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but family sleepovers make it pretty darn close.

Easter weekend in Sarasota! 💚🩵🩷💛 We filled our days with sunshine and family time — plus visits to Casperson Beach (where we found lots of shark teeth!), (best soft pretzel of my lifeee), Crescent Beach (where the boys swam in the ocean and found some crazy-cool conch shells), the new aquarium (beautiful and a huge hit with our whole family), Urfer Park for an early-morning bunny + tortoise walk and Payne Park to play on the circus-themed playground ☀️🫶🏻 Not a bad way to kick off spring break!!
