Our grant model: Money raised local, stays local. ⭐️

This grant model promotes community pride, and each of our chapters has a beneficiary(ies) within the community where donations are granted. Our grants support doctors, researchers, and projects with the potential for breakthroughs and for follow-up funding.

For today’s , we are featuring Barb Sloan, a co-event director for the inaugural Swim Across America - Phoenix Community Pool Swim. Inspired by Barb’s story? There’s still time to register or donate to the May 30 event. 🌞
Barb is the coach of the Sun City West Masters Swim Team and Adult Learn to Swim Instructor. She believes that swimming builds more than fitness – it builds community.
“Our swimmers share early mornings, tough sets, laughter on the deck, and the kind of encouragement that carries over into life beyond the pool. Within our own Sun City West Masters family, three of our swimmers are currently fighting cancer. Two have already faced the disease and survived—stronger, determined, and inspiring to everyone around them. Another teammate is in the midst of a Stage 4 cancer battle. When someone in your lane, someone you train beside week after week, faces a fight like that, it becomes more than a statistic. It becomes a call to action. Our Sun City West Masters team is swimming for teammates, for families, and for every person who has been touched by cancer. We’re swimming for survivors. We’re swimming for those still in the fight. And we’re swimming with hope that the research we support today will lead to the cures of tomorrow.”

At our SAA-Tampa Bay swim on Saturday, Spectrum Bay News 9 and Tyler O'Neill shared the story of Dr. Jonathan Metts, who specializes in pediatric hematology/oncology in the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute.
We are proud to help fund Dr. Metts' research, which is in its first phase and is showing promising results. To watch the feature, visit the link here: https://bit.ly/baynews9saatampabay26.

Ahead of this weekend’s Swim Across America - Tampa open water swim, we’re proud to share a story from Chris Supra, a top fundraiser in that community. Chris swims for his son, Ian, who lost his battle with esophageal cancer in November 2015 after a two-year fight. Thank you, Chris, for sharing your story and honoring Ian through Swim Across America.

“I'm swimming in honor of my son Ian, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in January 2014 of his senior year in high school at Dr. Phillips HS. Ian was a High School All American water polo player and swimmer. Ian left a lasting impact on the local community as his story went viral throughout the water polo and swimming community. Swimmers and water polo players all around the country rallied around Ian in his battle with cancer including several Olympian Water Polo players. While dealing with his diagnosis, he established a foundation that supports children, both financially and emotionally, battling cancer in Central Florida. Through his foundation, water polo tournament, and events like Swim Across America, Ian is still leaving a positive impact throughout Central Florida and beyond.”
