More than 40 years of severe knee hyperextension. Countless braces tried.

This patient has lived with long-term lower extremity weakness and instability following a stroke. Her custom Zeus KAFO with the new Flexion Control Dial was configured to provide greater mechanical support at the knee and adjustable control of permitted flexion.

The FCD gives clinicians another way to configure a KAFO for patients with significant weakness, instability, or recurrent knee buckling, including the ability to limit permitted knee flexion or provide full extension lockout when needed.

Today, we are proud to officially introduce the Flexion Control Dial.

The FCD has been in development, testing, and refinement for a long time, and bringing it to market represents an important step forward for Icarus Medical and for the way adjustable knee flexion can be managed in orthotic care.

Earlier this year, our founder and CEO, Dave Johnson, put the FCD through some final durability testing on the mountain. For Dave, the additional mechanical support provided by the FCD gave him the confidence and support he needed to snowboard for the first time in years.

But the bigger story is what this technology can offer clinicians and patients.

The FCD gives clinicians a simple mechanical way to adjust permitted knee flexion directly on the brace. From postoperative rehabilitation requiring changing range of motion to KAFO patients who need greater mechanical stability at the knee, settings can be adapted with the turn of a dial.

No swapping between multiple brace configurations.
No changing individual flexion stops.
More ability to configure the orthosis around the patient.

We love running into Icarus customers in the field.

We met this longtime custom Ascender Knee Brace user at an orthotics and prosthetics conference and learned more about how he uses his brace every day.

After a chainsaw injury left him with significant quadriceps weakness, his leg fatigues quickly when walking without the brace. The Ascender’s adjustable extension assist helps support his knee during each step and allows him to adjust the amount of assistance based on what he needs.

For him, that added support can make a meaningful difference in how far he is able to go.
