HELLO FRIENDS & FORMER CLIENTS

Thanks for following my Healing arts for over these past 17 years. I'm still creating art and seeing only a few clients now. However, my husband, Raven and I are still hosting an amazing Eco-friendly B&B in Charlottesville Virginia.
And...

If you've not seen or heard we've been navigating a serious cancer diagnosis and immunotherapy treatments.
Raven 's recent hospital stay has made this season much heavier, so we're reaching out farther and wider.

Raven said,
"Until this week, my cancer has been intellectual, a knowing. Something that was happening, but with no real consequence to my day to day life. This week, in the hospital, it declared itself. It stopped me, stabbed into my side, scuttled my plans. Tuesday, cancer showed me its power, and I was humbled."

Raven is fighting mucosal melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of melanoma. He's currently receiving immunotherapy at martha Jefferson hospital here in Charlottesville.. We're holding hope for the best possible outcome while taking each day as it comes, with as much love and humor as we can.

For over a decade, we've built a life we love: Fairhaven Guesthouse, and
Art Transforms Life, an eco-friendly lodging space and an art business that support each other and our local community. We've always been self-sufficient. But as small-business owners, we have no paid sick leave. When we can't work, the income stops or slows down to a trickle. Our insurance doesn't cover everything, and the mortgage doesn't pause.

Your support would help cover:

Lost income while we're at appointments and caring for Raven
Medical costs insurance won't pay travel to treatment or lodging near out of state cancer research centers.
Asking for help doesn't come easily to us. But easing this pressure means we can be fully present for Raven's care and cherish the good days together.

I have an idea for a blog post for this Healing Arts page. While I haven't been putting much energy into this page lately, I’m hoping to connect it and its followers to my guest house and art business.

The concept is titled "The Frugal Health Nut." I think it’s an accessible, realistic approach that challenges the myth that optimal health is a luxury. This fits perfectly under the Healing Arts banner, as nutrition, massage, and art are all ways of cultivating a conscious relationship with our bodies.

I hear it all the time: "I want to eat healthier, but it’s just too expensive."

I’ve never believed that. Having raised two sons on a tight budget while prioritizing organic, whole foods, I know that processed convenience foods are the real budget-drainers. Conscious eating just requires a shift in perspective.

Today in Orange, Virginia, I stopped at a conventional Food Lion looking for a nutrient-dense, inexpensive lunch. Here is what my "Frugal Health Nut" roadside meal looked like:

- Wild-Caught Cod Liver: A powerhouse of Omega-3s and Vitamin D.
- Organic Raw Broccoli: From the organic section in the produce aisle.
- Guacamole: Part of the "Clean Fifteen" (low pesticide risk) with simple ingredients.

The Breakdown:
The total cost was approximately $12—the same as a fast-food combo. However, I only finished half the broccoli and guacamole before I was satisfied, meaning I have a second meal for later. That is $6 per meal for clean, vibrant fuel.

🛒 The Frugal Health Nut’s Conventional Grocery Guide

You don't need a specialty store to eat well. Next time you are in a budget-friendly supermarket, look for these:

- Canned Wild-Caught Seafood: Sardines, mackerel, or pink salmon are often under $3 and packed with essential fatty acids.
- The "Clean Fifteen" Produce: If you can't go all-organic, focus on cabbage, onions, avocados, and frozen broccoli.
- Raw Cabbage: One of the cheapest healing foods for gut health.
- Bulk Lemons and Limes: An inexpensive way to add enzymes and Vitamin C to your water.

Health is a choice we curate with our awareness. You are worthy of feeding your body what makes it feel mighty, regardless of your budget.
