In 2015, five organizations across Asia and the Western Pacific were recognized as CLASP Service Partners for their leadership in delivering high-quality wheelchair services:

• Frank Hilton Organization Fiji
• MAC Georgia
• Ucprukindonesia
• The Association of People with Disability - India
• Paraplegic Center Peshawar

As part of the partnership, each organization received a donated container of wheelchairs to expand local access to appropriate mobility aids.

More than a decade later, our partnerships continue to highlight the importance of investing in local organizations that understand the needs of the people they serve.

The right wheelchair can open the door to greater comfort, safety, participation, and inclusion. Stories like Arilise’s remind us why access matters. 💙

Seven-year-old Arilise, a young girl with Cerebral Palsy living in Tuvalu, had never owned a wheelchair. With no shops selling disability equipment on the island and limited rehabilitation services available, she spent most of her days lying on the ground or being carried by family members.

“Arilise doesn’t get much exposure outside the house. We want her to have a comfortable and enjoyable life. We want her to go out and see things and see people playing.” — Arilise’s father

Through a partnership between CBM, local disability organizations, and Wheels for Humanity, Arilise received a specialized wheelchair designed to support her posture and navigate Tuvalu’s rough terrain.

The impact was immediate. For the first time, Arilise could sit comfortably, explore her community, and interact more easily with the world around her. After just one day, she was already enjoying outings to the local market and was able to eat more safely and comfortably.

Stories like Arilise’s remind us that the right wheelchair is about far more than mobility — it means health, safety, independence, and inclusion.

We’re proud to support organizations like Walkabout Foundation in Kenya, whose work is helping people regain independence and reconnect with their communities.

After a spinal cord injury, Lazarus faced years of physical and emotional challenges. Through Walkabout Kenya, he received a clip-on wheelchair via CLASP—and today, he lives independently, supports his family’s business, and moves freely through his community.

“This wheelchair has truly been the key to my independence.”

Stories like Lazarus’ highlight the life-changing impact of quality, appropriate assistive products and services.

After a life-changing spinal cord injury, Lazarus faced a long road to recovery—physically, emotionally, and mentally. For years, he struggled with depression, pressure sores, and the painful feeling of depending on others for everyday tasks.

In 2023, everything began to change.

Through Walkabout Foundation in Kenya, Lazarus received a clip-on wheelchair. Today, he lives independently in his own home, manages all of his daily activities on his own, and travels to town to support his family’s rice business.

“What makes me happiest is being independent and no longer relying on others.”

He’s even customized his wheelchair with headlights and taillights so he can safely travel at night.

“This wheelchair has truly been the key to my independence.”

Stories like Lazarus’ remind us that the right assistive products can open the door to greater freedom, participation, and opportunity.
