I spent a lot of time researching this one because I kept coming back to the same question: what actually makes a foundation clean?

I was surprised by how much confusion there is around the term “clean beauty.” The FDA does not define it, and there is no certification process a brand has to go through before putting it on a label.

Once I started looking more closely at ingredients, I found myself paying more attention to things I used to overlook. What changes when water is added? Are some of those long ingredient lists actually doing much? Are certain trendy ingredients there because they are helpful, or because they sound impressive?🧐

How did YOU learn to put on blush?😊

Who else hates eyeshadow fallout? 🙋‍♀️

If so, you've got to try this technique called "foiling." All you need is 3 parts distilled water, 1 part glycerin, and a dropper bottle. Add about 2 drops into your lid, add your shadow, blend, and watch what happens to that color payoff! 👁️🌟

Besides reducing fallout, this actually helps your eye colors last longer because the glycerin allows it to stick better to your skin!

Can I be upfront about our photos and tell you filters are never used — at most, good natural light and a mineral foundation shade that perfectly matches? 😍👌 That’s because our shades are actually formulated for warm undertones. 🤎

Back in the late 80s when I started wearing makeup, there wasn’t much of a selection for golden, warm, olive skin — one tended to look too ashy, too pink, or the dreaded orange. 🟠

It’s a big reason why adorned with Grace even exists. I didn’t set out to start a makeup brand — I set out to find makeup that actually worked for my skin. Then when I couldn’t find it, I made it. Clean, vegan, mineral AND formulated with warm and olive undertones in mind from the very beginning.

Maybe we're biased (🙃😉), but loose mineral makeup is still the cleanest foundation on the market…it feels like nothing and looks the most natural. 🌼

So why did it almost disappear? Here's what nobody told you: bismuth oxychloride. It was in up to 90% of mainstream mineral formulas in the 2000s, and it was the real cause of all that itching, irritation, and breakouts so many women blamed on the minerals themselves. It was never the minerals.

Then came the rebrand. "Skin tints" and "serum foundations" with 20+ ingredients started showing up everywhere, marketed as clean. That's greenwashing. Clean beauty has no legal definition; any brand can put that word on anything.

Meanwhile some of the most beloved indie mineral brands (Meow Cosmetics, Alima Pure, Everyday Minerals) quietly closed their doors. Three different stories. One common thread. 💔
