At BWell4Ever, you are always welcome for any of your health concerns! We know how important it is for your wellness to be in your own hands, and that's why we encourage you to use us as a supportive tool for your healthcare choices.

However, if you are in need of immediate care, we encourage you to see the right professionals based on the severity of your needs. Urgent care is for things that need to be fixed right away, but not at the risk of your life. The hospital's ER or ED is for when your life could be at risk.

The ER can help you with any of your more minor concerns, but it may end up costing you more than a visit to an urgent care or a clinic. We at BWell4Ever are upfront about how much each of our services would cost you, so you can be sure that you are making your own informed health choices.

Many people have the common experience of just being told that they need to lose weight regardless of their complaint. Simply "losing weight" can feel directionless and vague, leading to frustration. At BWell4Ever, we like to focus on lifestyle choices that are feasible for the everyday person rather than a number on the scale.

Within the last year, there has been a study about how specific lifestyle choices impact those who have elevated blood sugars but do not meet the diagnostic criteria for type II diabetes even if they hadn't lost any weight at all.

This study, called the Prediabetes Lifestyle Intervention Study, recruited 1,105 prediabetic individuals throughout Germany. These participants were put through a 12 month lifestyle intervention program that changed their diet and exercise habits with follow-ups that continued up to 9 years later.

Most lost weight as a secondary result of these lifestyle changes, but there were 234 people who had not. Out of those 234, 51 of them had also lowered their blood sugar to a healthy range and were found to be 71% less likely to develop type II diabetes and had lower amounts of visceral fat compared to the other 183 who remained prediabetic. This 71% is very similar to the 73% reduction in type II diabetes risk in those who had lost weight.

Even without weight loss, lifestyle interventions can still be just as effective at reversing prediabetes and reducing a person’s risk for diabetes type II.

Have you ever had concerns about your blood sugar? If your blood sugar is too high, you may start to see symptoms such as
-extreme thirst
-dry mouth
-frequent peeing
-headaches
-fatigue
It's possible to be affected by high blood sugar without being a diabetic.

The best way to know how low or high your blood sugar is is to check with a blood sample. Most commonly, this involves a device that uses a needle to quickly prick your finger.

A continuous glucose monitor, or CGM, can save your fingers from repeated sticking. It tracks your blood sugar continuously in real time, allowing you to watch how your body responds to what you eat and any changes you make. Maybe you want to try different kinds of foods or eating at a different time of day. A CGM makes it much easier to tell which of your efforts work better for you.

For $60, we will place the CGM in a comfortable position on your arm for you and help you pair it with your phone. The CGM itself lasts for two weeks, and you can come back to us for safe removal.

If you have any more questions about a CGM, give us a call at (423)531-2955.

Why is blood sugar important?

Whenever you eat food, your body breaks most of it down into glucose and releases it into your bloodstream. As the glucose in your blood goes up, your pancreas releases insulin, which helps the glucose go from your blood to the rest of your body for energy!

This is why insulin is equally important. Without enough insulin to balance out the glucose in your blood, you can end up with elevated levels for an extended amount of time. Too much glucose in your blood for too long can lead to complications with your skin, eyes, gums, feet, nerves, kidneys, heart, and more. This is the condition known as diabetes.

Anytime you get a metabolic panel with your labs, you’ll be able to see your blood sugar level that you had on the day your blood was drawn. If it is higher than expected, you may benefit from testing your hemoglobin A1c to view a larger scope of your blood sugar levels.

Normal Ranges
Before a meal: 70–100mg/dL
1–2 hours after eating: below 140mg/dL

Watch for symptoms of too much blood sugar, or hyperglycemia:
- Thirst
- Tiredness or weakness
- Headaches
- Peeing often
- Blurred vision

If you suspect that your blood sugar may be too high, there are blood glucose monitors that you can use to check your blood multiple times a day by pricking your finger each time. There are also devices called continuous glucose monitors (CGM) that gets attached to the side of your arm and connects to an app on your phone where you can see your blood sugar levels in real time for two weeks. If you're interested in a CGM, you can contact our office!
