💙 September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month💙
Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disease that causes scarring and thickening of lung tissue, making it harder to breathe and for oxygen to reach the body.
Common symptoms may include:
🫁 Shortness of breath, especially with activity
😮💨 Persistent dry cough
💤 Fatigue and decreased energy
📉 Unexplained weight loss
💙 Low oxygen levels
🦵 Clubbing of the fingers or toes in some people
While there is currently no cure for pulmonary fibrosis, treatment can help slow disease progression, manage symptoms, and improve quality of life. Treatment options may include antifibrotic medications, supplemental oxygen, pulmonary rehabilitation, treatment of underlying causes, and in advanced cases, lung transplantation.
If you or someone you love is experiencing persistent shortness of breath or a chronic cough, talk with a lung specialist. Early evaluation and treatment can make a difference.
💙 This Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, let’s raise awareness, encourage early evaluation, and support those living with pulmonary fibrosis.
