When we lack a sense of safety, achieving calm can be quite challenging.

Bob Livingstone, a licensed clinical social worker, explains, "Feeling safe means not experiencing that imminent sensation of falling off a cliff and not being anxious about criticism from those around you."

When you float, your stress hormones (which weaken the immune system) are suppressed. You're giving your body a chance to heal. Because everything is connected, the body and the mind, having a positive state of mind correlates with a well-functioning immune system.

When we give ourselves time to step back and reflect on all that we have going on and how we show up to do it, we can find more intention, peace, and fulfillment. Check in to see how your body and mind are feeling, especially compared to how you felt before your session. We recommend journaling about your experience, but at the very least, take a few minutes for some deep breaths as you check in with yourself before moving on with your day.

Many of us have been moving through our days in survival mode, just existing. And then when we take the opportunity to practice self-reflection or self-care, we start to realize how much we've struggled, how we've suffered.

Sometimes starting a practice like floating can bring great relief - healing - but it may not always be easy. Sometimes our environments make it challenging, especially when we don't have a strong support system, or if that support system includes people who are also suffering.

Just know that your journey is your own. It may be hard at times, but in time, you'll find the peace you need. And hopefully, others will see your example and follow. Just let them find it.
