šŸ“¢ ATTENTION!

The farmstand will be closing for the winter season on October 18th, 2026 at 6pm.

With the weather growing colder, I have yet to decide on a good heating source and dont want to compromise the integrity of my products or the mini fridge.

I know, I know...I'm sad too...

However...DON'T PANIC! I will be establishing an ordering system (to be announced) for everything that is in the farmstand for the winter months. I also will be attending a few craft fairs in the coming weeks and still have product at the Machias River General and Seaside Landscaping & Garden Center!

If you have become a regular and want to come visit your favorite little hippy store, OR you have been meaning to come see just how cute it is but haven't gotten the chance, now is the time!

Don't forget to leave a cute note in the jar on your way out!

There is something so incredibly comforting about cleaning out the garden.

While some may be sad about summer coming to an end and winter fast approaching, I look forward to the time spent with family, the holiday season, and the warm cozy nights ahead.

My garden produced beautiful plants this year but unfortunately did not yield much for produce. I am completely ok with this because I chose to experiment and use winter sow boxes instead of buying starters or early seed starting.

Every season brings an opportunity for growth and knowledge and my garden gave me exactly that this year.

With that being said, moving forward, in order to take the pressure of something I love so much, I will not be offering produce or seedlings in the upcoming season. I will instead be turning the produce I receive into homemade canned goods to share in my stand.

Where I am off the beaten path, I do not get enough foot traffic to keep produce in the stand without it expiring and I can't handle the thought of food being wasted just to try and make a buck. I would much rather pour my time into the skill I have grown to perfect over the last 10 years...canning.

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful fall colors and the fresh crisp air. ā¤ļø

Stay tuned for more announcements moving forward and as always...stay feral.āœŒļøšŸ˜˜

Something we go through all year round on a regular basis...applesauce.

Today we had a blast gathering up 120lbs of apples to put in jars! Apples are my very last canning hurdle before we move into deer season and start focusing on meat.

I've got close to 1,000 followers on here and I'm curious to know...what has everyone else been canning this season?

Pressure canning is always some what of a wild card. Not the pressure canning itself, but even when all steps are followed and system boxes are checked, the jars have a mind of their own.

Lots of people hesitate to pressure can due to being nervous of putting the pot under pressure and the horror stories that circulate about them blowing up.

Sometimes a jar will break for who knows what reason, but other times, you just may not get a ring on just tight enough and it will spin off. This causes the contents of the jar to boil out during processing.

This does NOT mean your whole batch is ruined! This just means you have a bit more scrubbing to do once you wash the jars for storage. After 2 near perfect batches, I had a little biit of mess on my third. It's ok though!

One thing to remember is to LEAVE THE FOOD on the jars! Do not try to rinse it off! This will cause a temperature shock to your jars and they WILL burst!

On a good note...no...a GREAT note, all of our tomatoes are officially done for the season! Thank you to Jordan farms in Chester for providing us with beautiful and safe produce to feed our family!

A little tip for my pressure canning pals!

I always wait until my jars depressurize when coming out of the pressure canner. However, special care is still.needed when lifting the jars by their rings as they are still under a bit of pressure.

When pulling out of the canner with pint jars, I always lift GENTLY by the jar. This prevents any compressing or shifting of the lid underneath the ring and compromising a good seal. It also lessens the change for the contents to spray out as your carrying it to its resting place.

I do NOT do this with quart jars. Those are lifted by the shoulder of the jar with a good firm grip. I can promise, you don't want one of those jars slipping and breaking.

I very rarely post any pictures or videos of myself on this page, but this one deserves some recognition.

I lost my Dad when I was 14. I went everywhere and did everything with him. One year for Christmas, he bought me a youth model .22 r***e. I cried. Not happy tears. But sad tears.

When he asked why I was crying, my response was "DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE TO K*LL ANIMALS?!" My Dad laughed, the deep entertained chuckle that so many knew and loved about him. He shook his head and said absolutely not. You don't have to ever sho*t anything if you don't want to."

I settled down and went on to use that little pea shooter to pop thousands of balloons on a homemade target that he built and I don't even know how many packages of balloons he and my mother purchased.

I grew to love the hunt more than the harvest, which is still true to this very day. The hunt is where memories are made. The harvest is the work that is put in after the adventure has ended.

I have never harvested a single living thing to put on my table. Not for lack of trying, but for the simple fact that when we lost my Dad, his knowledge and skill went with him. I didn't get enough time to learn all I could of from him.

Last year, I spent every waking minute for over a month scouting, tracking, aiming at and sitting for a deer. I never got the chance to harvest, but boy didn't I absolutely love every second of that hunt.

This year, I finally did it. I harvested my very first turkey to put on our table. The first living thing (except maybe a squirrel or two) at 36 years old that I have ever harvested. After 3 days of chasing flocks and running through the blueberry fields like Forest Gump, one popped up right behind me like a jack in the box about 5 feet away as I was headed for a different flock.

I have had some amazing mentors since my Dad has been gone and some really great people giving me all the tips and tricks they have learned over the years. I am forever grateful!

Cheers to the 2026 Maine Hunting Season and hopefully a plentiful harvest for everyone!

I have some sad news...

With the rising cost of everything in this world currently, and having such a tough season with egg production, I have decided to end our quail journey for the cold months. We will be restarting our flock next spring with a new set up and hopefully a better outcome.

The eggs and meat are delicious and we look forward to having a better system next year! The current quail that we have will go into our freezer to feed our family and serve their purpose full circle. ā¤ļø

This is part of the homesteading process that is tough, but necessary. ā¤ļø

Wanna know what my life looks like?

"Oh I've got to be someplace by 6...let me just process a few batches of jars first. After doing chores, looking for turkeys to harvest (took a shot and missed one after chasing 3 flocks btw), running errands for feed etc, and stowing things away at camp for the impending storm.

Canning seasonnnnnnn šŸ¤£šŸ‘

Good news though...crabapple juice is all processed to be on the shelf for a later date to make jelly!
