You're driving home from work when you realize you've been thinking about the same question for 20 minutes: What am I doing with my life?

You thought maybe it was just your job causing you to think this way, but you know it's something bigger than that, or something deeper.

You've been feeling restless for months. Your friendships feel different to you. Your children need you differently now. Your home doesn't feel quite right anymore, and the plans you made years ago leave you feeling ambivalent, lacking any thrill.

Nothing has necessarily gone terribly wrong. You've just reached a point where the old you is on her way out and allowing a truer you to take her place. You're at a threshold, between identities.

That can be uncomfortable. And awkward.

Most people mistake it for depression. But it's not.

And you can experience clarity when you stop trying to force yourself back into the life you used to love. You begin noticing what interests you, what drains you, who you want around you, and what you have been putting off because you were afraid of what might happen if you admitted you wanted something different, something more (even if it it's tamer, quieter, or simpler).

It's OK to not know what comes next. You can still begin by simply paying attention. Clarity comes later.

And there are other people going through a similar experience. You can find them at our MindBody Healing Center. Come to one of our groups and meet them. You'll feel less alone.

Nobody told us that starting over would involve so much Googling.

"What kind of work do I want to do now?"
"Where do people my age even go to meet new friends?""
How do I make a life when I have no idea what I want my life to look like?"

FYI: You can be perfectly capable and still find yourself Googling things you never thought you'd need to know.

Starting a new chapter seems to comes with a lot of research, along with a surprising number of browser tabs. 🧐
