Meanwhile, at Midguards Rest…
Things Massage School Did Not Prepare Me For:
Learning more about someone’s life during one massage than some of their family has learned in ten years.
Early in massage school, they really drill professional boundaries into you—which is absolutely important. But I think I misunderstood that as needing to keep an emotional distance, too.
Nobody prepared me for the genuine bonds I would build with the people who trust me with their bodies, their stories, their hard days, their good news, their grief, and occasionally information that probably needs to go with me to the grave. 😂
Some of you came through my door as clients and, somewhere between the massages, life updates, laughter, tears, and “Girl, you are not going to believe what happened,” real friendships formed.
The boundaries are still there. The professionalism is still there. But so is the love.
Massage school taught me how to care for the body. It didn’t prepare me for how deeply I would come to care about the whole person on my table—or how much this little place would start to feel like a family. 💕
