I’m mad at my field — and I know I’m not alone. In my latest rant I call out the systems that burn out clinicians and propose we band together to demand better: humane workplaces, ethical practice ownership, and sustainable care. My weekend rant—apologies if I offended anyone, but I'm not really sorry. The State of the FieldI’m so mad at my field. Furious, honestly. Business and therapy feel like oil and water—completely separate worlds that somehow get forced to mix. Everywhere I turn, I hear horror stories: abusive pr...

I refuse to pretend “everything’s fine.” In my latest post I explore staying present with hard news, tending to family wounds, and holding grief without numbing out. It’s short, honest, and meant for anyone who’s trying to stay compassionate without getting overwhelmed. Read more: https://wix.to/9n7ohSL

New on the blog: Why are we still normalizing working for free in the helping professions? Jenifer Korotko examines how compassion-driven work can get exploited, why lived experience doesn’t equal unpaid labor, and practical steps helpers can take to protect their time and boundaries. Why Are We Still Normalizing Working for Free in the Helping Professions?I am in the helping field. I love it… and I absolutely hate parts of it all at the same time. This field is filled with people whose hearts are often larger than the systems holding them. Being a healer doesn't mean having arrived — it means walking the path alongside others. In my latest post, I share what it’s like to struggle and heal while supporting clients, and why vulnerability is part of the work. Read: https://wix.to/PyKasgm

One of the strangest things about being a therapist, trauma healer, or someone people place in the “helper” category is how quickly others assume you must be healed. As if the certifications, trainings, books, and years of sitting with people somehow exempt you from being human.I think many heale...

In private therapy practice, supervision is often described as a cornerstone of ethical and professional development. In theory, it is where clinicians refine their clinical thinking, process complex cases, explore countertransference, and strengthen ethical decision-making. In practice, however, no...

I believed the “we’re like family here” line — until it wasn’t. In my new post I pull back the curtain on a therapy practice that prioritized compliance over care, how it affected me, and why I built a better way forward for clinicians and clients alike. What’s one workplace phrase that felt supportive but masked control? Share below.

I used to believe the phrase “we’re like family here.”A lot of therapists do.We enter this field because we care deeply about people. We want to help. We want to heal. So when a practice markets itself as warm, collaborative, mission-driven, and “family-oriented,” it can feel like exactly ...

Hey all — I’ve been quietly working on something that means a lot to me.
After years of working in — and witnessing — toxic dynamics within private practice settings, I decided to create a self-paced program for therapists who are ready to better understand the business side of our field, recognize exploitative workplace patterns, and learn how to move toward ethical, sustainable independence.
This program is for fully licensed and pre-licensed clinicians who are tired of:
• unclear pay structures
• unpaid labor being normalized
• burnout being treated as a personal failing
• feeling emotionally manipulated in “family-style” workplaces
• and questioning their own worth in environments that profit from their exhaustion
I’m almost done creating it, and I wanted to share a blog post that explains why I built it and the experiences that led me here.
If you’ve ever felt trapped, dysregulated, or unseen in this field — this is for you.https://www.approachablehealer.com/post/the-therapy-practice-that-broke-me-and-why-i-built-a-way-out
