Spotlight on Soror Kecia Blakely: Empowering Others to Heal, Grow and Thrive
As we continue our celebration of National Black Business Month, we are proud to spotlight Soror Kecia Blakely, a dedicated mental health professional, entrepreneur, and advocate for accessible, person-centered care.
Kecia has worked in the mental health and social services field since graduating from Indiana University in 2008. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Behavioral Science, with minors in Sociology and Human Development & Family Studies, and later earned a Master of Science in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, she has made it her mission to help others recognize their value, discover their strength, and believe that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.
For Soror Kecia, becoming an entrepreneur was about creating the freedom to serve people in a way that aligns with her values.
After witnessing too many people struggle in silence or face barriers to quality mental health care, she knew there was an opportunity to create something different—something trauma-informed, person-centered, accessible, and intentional.
Her private mental health practice serves a diverse range of clients experiencing emotional pain, life transitions, trauma, self-doubt, and other challenges that can make it difficult to move forward.
But her work goes beyond simply treating symptoms.
Soror Kecia describes her approach as interoceptive and relational, journeying alongside her clients toward holistic healing of the mind, body, and spirit.
Her practice is deeply rooted in a spiritual theoretical orientation, combined with person-centered and trauma-informed care. She believes clients deserve to feel safe, seen, supported, and empowered.
Her goal is to help people recognize that they don't have to remain stuck. Through therapy and intentional support, clients can learn healthier ways to manage life's challenges, reconnect with themselves, and move toward their purpose-driven destiny.
One word that perfectly describes her business is “Empowering.”
One of the problems Soror Kecia is passionate about addressing is the accessibility of mental health services. Her practice offers reasonable rates to help underserved populations gain access to quality care.
She also brings extensive experience in leadership, clinician training, and the development of trauma-informed programs. Her commitment to professional development allows her to continually expand her knowledge and ensure that the care she provides remains clinically mindful and grounded in best practices.
For Soror Kecia, mental health is not something that should be discussed only when someone reaches a crisis. She believes we should normalize conversations about mental health in our families, workplaces, and communities.
And her message is clear:
“YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!”
When asked what success means to her, Soror Kecia doesn't point to a financial number or business milestone.
Success is watching people realize they don't have to stay stuck.
It is seeing clients heal, grow, regain confidence, and begin building lives they are proud of. It is knowing she has created a safe environment where people feel respected, supported, and empowered.
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs reflects the same intentionality she brings to her practice: Start with your “why.” Be clear about who you want to serve and how you want people to feel when they interact with your business. And don't be afraid to start small—consistency and integrity are more important than perfection.
Her business philosophy is equally powerful:
Never stop learning.
Soror Kecia has been a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated since November 2006. Through her professional work and entrepreneurial journey, she continues to exemplify the spirit of service, sisterhood, scholarship, and Finer Womanhood.
Her story is a reminder that entrepreneurship can be more than building a business—it can be about creating safe spaces, filling gaps, empowering others, and changing lives.
As we come to an end of National Black Business Month, we salute Soror Kecia Blakely for using her passion, education, experience, and purpose to remind others that healing is possible, growth is possible, and they are capable of becoming everything they were created to be.
