This year’s Healthcare Quality Week is a wrap, but the impact we’ve created as a Quality community will be long lasting. Thank you to the visionary leaders who generously gave their time and expertise to present at our daily sessions. And thank you to everyone who joined a session, celebrated with their teams, hosted educational events, created awareness for the importance of healthcare Quality and shared it all on social media to spread the word and share the support.

To celebrate Healthcare Quality Week and honor NAHQ’s 50th anniversary, we asked past president Nancy Claflin to reflect on what NAHQ and Healthcare Quality & Safety can make possible for the next 50 years. Her answer is a testament to the important work of the dedicated Quality community.

“As healthcare Quality professionals, we welcome diversity, differing points of view, and even our own differing priorities in healthcare Quality. Yet with all those differences, we share a common vision. We are the leaders of the journey that will lead to the vision of Quality healthcare for everyone. Creating Quality healthcare for everyone is a daunting task by any measure but that doesn’t mean we don’t try to realize this goal. We get to work towards that vision every day.”

On the occasion of NAHQ’s 50th anniversary, we invited NAHQ past president Lee Hamilton to imagine what progress the next 50 years of advancing healthcare Quality & Safety might bring. In his crystal ball, he saw a bright future for healthcare, and a key role for Quality & Safety.

“AI, robotics and advancements in the science of Quality will have considerably narrowed gaps and deficiency in care. Quality, Safety, Risk, Patient Experience, Population Health and other ways to measure and improve care will have melded into the field of ‘applied healthcare sciences.’ In whatever ways healthcare changes, in 50 years, professionals will still be driving ever better health experiences and outcomes. NAHQ will be the premier contributor to the profession's body of applied knowledge, and the primary supporter of its dedicated professionals. At least I imagine so.”

In this milestone year of NAHQ’s 50th anniversary, NAHQ past president Patty Resnik reflected on the meaning of NAHQ for her personally, and the important role the organization plays for the entire healthcare community. One standout quality about NAHQ for Patty are the dedicated people at the heart of NAHQ. “Serving on the NAHQ Board has been a tremendous honor and a true professional privilege.
