🚴‍♂️ How we recommend using the CAROL Bike at the Lab

Cardio isn’t one-size-fits-all.

The CAROL Bike gives us the ability to use three different energy-system approaches, depending on your goals, training schedule, and recovery.

🟦 ZONE 2 | 30–45 min
Low intensity, sustainable effort.
Goal: Overall health, aerobic fitness & longevity.
Best used on non-strength days, or separated from strength training when possible.

🟨 HIIT | 15–25 min
Moderate-to-high intensity intervals.
Goal: Increase calorie expenditure and improve conditioning.
Great on non-strength days or after strength training.

🟥 REHIT | 5–8 min
Short, very high-intensity intervals.
Goal: Improve aerobic capacity and efficiency with minimal time.
Best performed on non-strength days or after strength training, preferably following an upper-body session rather than a leg day.

So which one should you do?

That depends on your goal and your training program.

At the Wellness Lab, we don’t believe in simply adding more cardio. We want to use the right type, at the right intensity, at the right time so it complements your strength training rather than interfering with it.

Sometimes, 30 minutes is all you need. Sometimes, you want more.

Whether through ARX or traditional strength training, it’s our Training System that truly sets the Lab apart.

At the core of our system is a concept we call Form, Activation, Numbers (FAN).

While there are always exceptions, we believe numerical performance—how much weight you lift, or how many reps you complete, only matters once the right conditions are in place. Activation must come before numbers, and activation cannot be achieved without proper form.

In other words:

Form → Activation → Numbers

For hundreds of clients and thousands of workouts, this has been the foundation of how we train. By prioritizing how an exercise is performed and ensuring the intended muscle is actually doing the work, we create a more intentional and effective path toward progress.

This approach has helped everyday people build and grow muscle, improve their strength, and achieve fitness results they may not have been able to achieve through traditional training alone.

It’s been a minute since we’ve posted here, but behind the scenes, we’ve been busy building what’s next. Here is a quick look at what’s new:

🔹More Space, Better Training: We’ve expanded our facility to offer traditional weightlifting right alongside ARX • Adaptive Resistance Exercise.
🔹WL App: We launched our beta app! Track your workouts, monitor long-term progress, and sync Apple Health or Google Fit so your trainers have full visibility into your routine.
🔹10 Years Strong: Time flies—we’re officially gearing up to celebrate a decade in business next year.

We’re excited to share more of what’s coming!

Two of the best in the industry discussing the power of maximal intensity cardio. Andrew Huberman & Andy Galpin dive into the details of why a workout like the CAROL bike provides incredible benefits.

The main takeaways:
-Typical slow paced, long duration cardio such as walking, jogging, even weight training should be a given for everybody. It can improve your cardiovascular health but not nearly as much as near max training.
-At least once a week, you should perform an exercise that causes you to go to near max heart rate. (Elsewhere in their conversation its stated that you can do a higher frequency with no negative effects).
-The benefits of max cardio training include improved stroke volume, cardiac output, resting heart rate, mitochondria performance and much more. Stress causes adaptation.
-A variety of different exercises can accomplish near max heart rate typically anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds. (The CAROL can accomplish this in just 20 seconds thanks to the adaptive AI technology).
-There is no interference effect with other forms of training including resistance, its actually tends to be complementary. They can be performed in the same workout or at different times (we typically perform a CAROL session after an ARX session).

We’re fortunate enough to have the CAROL bike here at the Lab. Want to see what the hype is all about? Contact us to learn more!

Lets talk about proper form! đź—Ł

While HIIT is the most effective and efficient form of resistance training, its incredibly important not to forget proper technique, stability, and alignment while doing so. This will help lead to injury prevention, neurological adaptations, and superior results. To add, proper form will help you perform resistance training pain free if that is a ailment you currently face.

In this video, you see 3 different exercises: row, leg press, and chest press. In all 3, you can see how his trunk or what we call his thoracopelvic cylinder (TPC) are aligned and look identical. The TPC includes the ribs, spine, and hips. The goal is simple, keep the TPC aligned and the limbs will have a much greater chance of moving correctly throughout exercise.
