Five Keys Yoga Yoga for the Whole Family: Traditional Yoga Classes, Yoga for All Abilities, and Yoga Therapy

Our traditional hatha yoga classes feature fun sequences to challenge the body, but ultimately our work is to teach our students how to develop greater control over their own minds. We strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based yoga classes and Yoga Therapy services, which nurture our yoga students and Yoga Therapy clients. Our studio welcomes students with a variety of needs, as we believe yoga is a practice from which anyone can benefit, adaptable to any limitation.

Are you familiar with the five Yamas of Yoga? The first Yama is Ahimsa - non-violence. Learn more about this key element of Raja Yoga below and on our Nirodhah blog:

When we embrace Ahimsa, the yama of non-violence, we create an atmosphere of peace in our thoughts, words, and actions that resonates across our entire life. In fact, Patanjali tells us in Sutra 2.35 that in the presence of a person firmly established in non-violence, hostility ceases. Fear dissipates and a sense of peace surrounds us, which influences both our inner environment and the wider, outer environment around us.

In establishing ahimsa firmly enough within ourselves to radiate it outward, we find that same energy of peace all around us.

Pitta (one of the three Ayurvedic Doshas) can feel more prominent in your body in these warm summer months. An excess of of Pitta may feel like overheating, an increase of acid reflux, more sweat than usual, inflammation in your joints, and even irritability or anger...not too fun, right?

To reduce and soften these excess Pitta qualities (balancing you out with the other Doshas - Vata and Kapha) try the below tips!
- Enjoy plenty of cooling foods (cucumbers, melons) and PLENTY of water!
- Rest your limbs and joints such as in Viparita Karani (legs up the wall pose).
- Practice a few rounds of Sitali - a cooling Pranayama exercise involving open mouth exhales with your tongue curled.

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝ YOGA FOR RUNNERS ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝ

Running presents us with both physical challenges like physical stress and injury in addition to the mental challenges of mental stamina, self-regulation and performance.

A yoga practice is the combination of dynamic stretching, physical alignment, breath control, and mental focus/ endurance, all of which can directly help our physical running performance, injury avoidance, and mental stamina and equanimity during both training and races.

Participants will leave this practice with greater nervous system control, tools to better avoid injury and support running form, and a practice for cultivating mental calmness and resilience during our runs.

This workshop is ideal for runners who are looking to support their running with more efficient recovery, breath control, and mental endurance as well as for yogis who want to start running.
