Meet runner, Jill Powell🏃
Through her work with UNC Kidney Center, she’s seen how education and early screening can improve kidney health. Now, she’s running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon to honor her late mom, a Chicago native. Every mile supports a healthier future for the kidney community.

On the next episode of The Journey Continues, hosts Monica Fox and Sara Jane Charles sit down with Jackie Burgess-Bishop, FACHE, who recently retired as CEO of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. Jackie reflects on her path from studying biology at Northwestern to leading one of Illinois' most vital health organizations, the obstacles she faced as a woman in STEM, how patient education and access to care have changed over her career, and what she hopes people remember most about her seven years at NKFI.

We also honor Dylan Richardson in our Donor Spotlight. Dylan was seven years old when he died from injuries sustained in a car crash in 2007. His parents, Dan and Lisa, made the decision to donate his organs — a choice that gave three people more time and made a superhero-loving little boy a hero in death.

Then, stick around for our P*E Break, where we look at Kidney Connections, NKFI's webinar and event series for people living with chronic kidney disease, transplant recipients, and their families. Join us October 24 for our free annual in-person event in Chicago's medical district, featuring expert panels, community partners, a recognition ceremony honoring living donors and transplant recipients, plus lunch and free parking. Register at nkfi.org.

Special thanks to Donate Life Illinois for making this show possible.
