TOOTH PROBLEMS!? ME!?!?!? Ughhhhhh! But luckily I only had soreness the night of the incident. No symptoms after that. I’m probs just being over cautious but you never know! Will take another PA in a few weeks to confirm. Fingers crossed that a lesion doesn’t pop up then… or even years from now or something ahhh!!!! Whyyyyy did I toss my gum up like that?!?! This video is an example of “what NOT to do at home” lol

Many people think cavities are just from eating too much sugar, but there’s more to it. Let’s dive in!

🦷Dry Mouth: Mouth breathing, medications, or dehydration reduce saliva, essential for neutralizing acids and washing away bacteria.
🦷Carbs and Acids: Foods high in carbohydrates and acids can erode enamel and feed cavity-causing bacteria.
🦷Medical Conditions: Acid reflux or GERD can cause stomach acid to flow back into the mouth, eroding enamel.
🦷Mouth Jewelry: Tongue and lip piercings can damage teeth and gums, leading to increased cavity risk.
🦷Orthodontic Appliances: Braces and retainers trap food and plaque, making it harder to clean teeth properly.
🦷Skipping Dental Checkups: Regular dental visits catch cavities early before they worsen.
🦷Genetics: Some people are more prone to cavities due to their tooth structure and saliva composition.
🦷Not Using Fluoride: Fluoride strengthens enamel and helps prevent cavities. It’s essential for cavity prevention!

Remember, cavities don’t have a SINGLE cause! Your risk depends on various factors like diet, nutrition, regular dental care, and more! Always start with the basics: good oral hygiene & regular checkups! And then go from there!

Ever wonder what each dental product actually does? Your toothbrush, floss, water flosser, tongue scraper, and mouthwash all have different jobs and understanding the purpose of each can help you build a better oral hygiene routine. The best dental routine isn’t about buying every product on the shelf… it’s about choosing the right tools for YOUR mouth and using them consistently!

Thinking about returning to dental hygiene after taking time off? 🦷 Whether you took time away to raise a family, changed careers, or life simply got busy, your confidence may come back slower than your clinical skills and that’s completely normal. Here are my favorite tips for getting back into hygiene with confidence, from taking CE courses and shadowing another hygienist to reconnecting with the dental community. You’ve worked hard for your license... you’ve got this!

PS HOPE YOU SEE YOU ALL AT THE Dental Hygiene Month Party ON OCTOBER 26TH!
