DOCTOR DAN® SPEAKS:TRX Goes Up In Flames On I-90 . . As an aficionado of high-horsepower vehicles, I probably take for granted the risk factor that's associated with them. As a Mopar fanatic, I've owned virtually every flavor of Challenger, Charger, Jeep, Magnum, RAM, SRT8, SRT10 . . You name it, I've taken it up to 160+ mph! During my past 45-years as a driver, I've luckily been able to navigate safety challenges and remain unscathed. Unfortunately, the law of averages tends to catch up with us all as we get older. I was on the Kennedy driving to the hospital, when I noticed there was gray/black smoke coming out of my left-front wheel well. So I immediately pulled onto the shoulder for a closer look. When I stuck my head into the wheel well, flames were coming out of the inside tire and wheel. Obviously, it got my adrenaline pumping as I took off my vest to beat down the flames. Two other drivers pulled over as well and started pouring gallons of water and using a fire extinguisher on the burning wheel. It looked like we had things under control when all of a sudden the flames started surging again and nothing we did was able to suppress the fire from spreading into the engine compartment,. Within a couple of minutes, the entire front end was engulfed in flames and smoke as we judiciously decided to retreat. I had just filled up the tank with gas, and thankfully, the Fire Department Department showed up quickly to prevent my Dodge RAM TRX from becoming a "dirty bomb" that could have injured many people. The firemen said that the intensity of the blaze was quite aggressive and even a challenge for them to contain in an expeditious manner. The entire front-end of the truck was completely melted within minutes! All in all, a crazy experience that I won't soon forget. Moral of the story . . Be thankful for each day, because you never know what's waiting for you in the mile ahead. Peace & Love to all of you ! ! !
