Austin Community Food Co-op Our Vision is to strengthen the health, wellness, and local economy of the Austin Community through cooperation.

Chicago's Austin community is the largest community area in the city, and is one of the most densely populated with over 95,000 residents. Despite this, Austin lacks many of the basic resources that stabilize a neighborhood, including places to buy quality food. Austin is considered a food desert because we lack affordable and nutritious food options, which lead to lifelong effects on community me

mbers' physical and mental health. The Austin Community Food Co-op (ACFC) is a solution to start addressing food insecurity in the neighborhood by offering a member-owned, full service grocery store right here in the community. By offering healthy food options, stimulating the local economy, and encouraging community ownership, we will help increase the quality of life for Austin residents and help live up to our mantra: Eating Good, Living Better.

As we close out the year, we’re celebrating real progress, collective power, and the community behind this co-op. 💚 With 50 committed co-op owners and a growing team, we’re building something lasting—together.

We’re deeply grateful for our 2025 interim board, team, and volunteers who helped lay a strong foundation, and we’re heading into 2026 with momentum and our first official elected board.
