We wanted to share a recent resource that the Morton Arboretum shared regarding their Canopy Counts Program. This program provides a simple and fun tool for residents to help their communities track trees and tree-ready spaces across the Chicago region, while learning more about the benefits provided by those trees. This tool will allow people to learn about the trees in their neighborhood and will help groups like the Morton Arboretum care for these trees in the best way possible.

CCHE was so excited to hear about the Garfield Park Community Orchard, which will bring fruit and nut orchards to increase nature-based programming and green space along the Fifth Avenue Corridor. Construction began in May of this year, and the preferred design features tree plantings and berry bushes planted on the corner parcel at Fifth Avenue and Sacramento. The Albany and Sacramento parcel will incorporate a community gathering space and nature play site, to be developed as part of the West Side Nature Play Network.

This month, we continue to share poems from our Belonging Workshop with the Chicago scholars in Apri of this year. We love reading the Scholars poetry and seeing how they connect to their neighborhoods and the places they feel like they belong. As students in Chicago Scholars made college decisions this past May, CCHE helped them understand what belonging and community meant to each person.
