This looks like such a lovely course coming up by LearningHerbs.com led by my friend Kimberly Gallagher alongside Lauren Morgan. Rhythms & Relationships approaches herbs and wellness in a deeper, more intuitive, present, and relational way.

Although our tools may be different, we find that there is an overlap in the philosophies of functional medicine and herbalism. This is particularly evident in the functional model of recognizing the pathways of underlying imbalances that exist before disease states manifest. In those imbalances, we can often provide nutritional and herbal support to help people feel well, anchored and nourished.

Because of that commonality, we can use the functional approach to help inform our therapeutic plans as herbalists. This class will explore some basic labs that your clients may bring from their conventional doctors, which we can review through a functional lens. Using this lens, we will get a sense of where some of those underlying imbalances might be and how we might bridge the gap from the conventional world to our work as herbal practitioners.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to support clients who are pregnant, postpartum, and/or lactating through both physiological and spiritual/energetic lenses. We’ll discuss safety considerations, how to support clients during common pregnancy-related challenges, navigating postpartum changes, and tending to other needs that are often unmet during these life stages. Camille and Renée will share conversation and cases from our clinical practices in this practical workshop.

Renée Camila (she/ella) is a bilingual (spanish + english) yerbera and traditional birthworker. Born and raised in San Francisco on Muwekma, Ohlone, and Ramaytush territory as the child of Nicaraguan immigrants, her practice La Yerba Buena Herbs draws from her Spanish and Indigenous (Chorotega) ancestry. Trained in Indigenous energetic herbalism by Karyn Sanders and Sarah Holmes of the Blue Otter School of Herbal Medicine, Renée has been in clinical practice since 2016. Following in the footsteps of her ancestors, she is also a student of Mesoamerican Traditional Medicine (MTM) and Curanderismo. Connect with Renée: www.ReneeCamila.com

Camille Freeman, DCN, RH(AHG), has been working with clients as a clinical herbalist and nutritionist since 2003, with a focus on fertility, pregnancy, and menstrual health. Her clinical work is guided by her background in physiology, along with a belief in the power of incremental change: starting small, listening closely, and helping clients make changes that actually last. A teacher at heart, Camille spent nearly 17 years teaching physiology and pathophysiology at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. One of her strengths is breaking down complex concepts into clear, practical points that clinicians can actually use. Sweltering summer bogs us down making us exhausted, overwhelmed, heavy, and irritable, especially mid-day. Herbs and remedies that are energetically cooling (and often hydrating) help us cope better with rising temps and find relief from its irritating, exhausting effects. These herbal remedies are often cold to cool in temperature, water based, and sometimes sweet, tart, or sweet-tart in flavor.
