We cannot heal ourselves if we aren't willing face pain. There are times when we may have a spontaneous emotional, psychological or even a physical healing, but most of the time, we have to be willing to look at ourselves honestly and choose to be present in order to make a change. Then, things can really shift.
I, like the rest of the humans on the planet, have been given many opportunities to be present and face the pain. Emotions I'd buried, mental patterns that I'd chosen to ignore. Traumas that surface when I least expect it.
Facing the pain doesn't ever feel good, but in order to shift and make a change, we HAVE to face it, feel it, and then keep living...perhaps making different or new choices. Perhaps practicing letting go.
And then, there's the integration period. Things settle and we are given the opportunity to reflect and simply be.
The more present we are, the easier it is to feel. Which, when it's something we feel is positive about is great, but other times, being present to FEEL can be a challenge.
But we are here for ALL the emotions because we are human, and this is part of the human process.
Facing pain doesn't mean you have to do it alone. Finding someone to talk to and reaching out for support may be one of the best ways to start the healing/releasing process. I believe, in fact, that though we have to do our inner "work" ourselves, we are MEANT to find friends/family/professional to help us through the process.
So wherever you are today, next week, next month, or year, remember: It may not feel or be easy, but when we face what we've been hiding from, this is when we can begin to change.
This is when we can gain a new perspective, grow and learn. And through this, likely create more contentment and joy in our lives.
