Football season isn't just about what's happening on the field.

It's tailgates, long walks around campus, standing in the stands, tossing a football around, chasing the kids through the parking lot, and spending an entire Saturday on your feet.

If pain or stiffness is keeping you from enjoying those moments, it's worth paying attention to.

You don't have to be a Division I athlete to benefit from physical therapy. Whether you're dealing with an old sports injury, a stiff knee, recurring back pain, or discomfort that has gradually become part of your routine, our Doctors of Physical Therapy can help you understand what's going on and work toward getting you moving again.

This football season, don't just cheer from the sidelines. **Keep your body in the game, too.**

Think you need to see your doctor and get a referral before you can start physical therapy?

In Virginia, you may be able to see a physical therapist directly, depending on your circumstances and insurance plan. That means you don't necessarily have to wait for another appointment before getting your pain or movement concerns evaluated.

At Total Motion PT, our Doctors of Physical Therapy can evaluate your symptoms, identify movement limitations, and determine whether physical therapy is an appropriate next step. If additional medical care is needed, we'll help guide you in the right direction.

Whether it's a nagging knee, back pain that's getting in the way of your weekend, or an injury that's keeping you from the activities you enjoy, you don't have to simply "wait it out."

**No referral needed. Book your appointment and take the first step toward feeling better.**

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and we're celebrating the people at the heart of what we do: our Doctors of Physical Therapy.

Physical therapy isn't just about treating an injury after it happens. It's about helping you move better, build strength, reduce pain, return to the activities you love, and feel confident in your body again.

At Total Motion PT, our team works with each patient to understand the bigger picture behind their pain or movement limitations. Whether you're recovering from an injury, trying to avoid surgery, getting back to sports, or simply looking to stay active as you age, physical therapy can be an important part of the process.

This month, we'll be introducing you to the people behind Total Motion, sharing more about how we approach treatment, and showing you what physical therapy can look like beyond the typical stereotypes.

Here's to the Doctors of Physical Therapy who help their patients keep moving forward.

Ever wondered how dry needling can fit into a physical therapy treatment plan?

Dry needling is a technique that uses very thin needles to target areas of muscle tension and dysfunction. When appropriate, it can be used alongside other physical therapy techniques to help address pain, improve movement, and support your recovery.

In this video, one of our Doctors of Physical Therapy walks through how dry needling works and what you can expect during treatment.

Every patient is different, which is why your treatment should be based on your specific symptoms, movement limitations, and goals. Our team takes the time to understand what's going on and determine which techniques may be appropriate for you.

Don't play through pain. **No referral needed. Book today.**

Football season is here, and whether you're on the field, in the stands, or chasing the action from the sidelines, your knees need to be ready for it.

Knee extension is an important part of healthy knee movement and function. When your knee isn't moving or straightening the way it should, it can affect how you walk, run, squat, jump, and perform everyday activities.

In this video, our Doctors of Physical Therapy demonstrate different ways to work on knee extension and explain why this movement matters. The right exercises can help improve mobility, strength, and overall knee function so you can stay active with confidence.

And remember, you don't have to wait until an injury sidelines you to see a physical therapist. If you're experiencing knee pain, stiffness, or difficulty moving, Total Motion PT can help identify what's contributing to the problem and create a treatment plan designed around your goals.

Don't play through pain. **No referral needed. Book today.**

Regained Leg Strength & Mobility

There’s nothing better than hearing from a patient who feels like they’ve made real progress.

Stuart B. returned to Total Motion for a second round of care after experiencing knee pain related to an old ACL injury. With the help of his physical therapist, Heath, Stuart worked on rebuilding strength in his legs and learning exercises designed to improve his overall strength and movement.

His experience is a great reminder that an old injury doesn’t necessarily have to define how you move today.

“My physical therapist Heath went above and beyond in helping me through knee pain caused by an old ACL injury. He helped me regain strength in my legs and helped me learn exercises to improve total body strength. I couldn’t ask for more!”

We’re grateful Stuart trusted Total Motion with his care again, and we’re proud to be part of his continued journey. 💙

If pain, weakness, or an old injury is keeping you from moving the way you want to, physical therapy may be able to help.

Warm Up Before You Tackle That Labor Day To-Do List

Labor Day weekend may mean a long list of projects around the house, yard work, moving furniture, travelling, or simply being more active than usual.

Before you jump straight into the work, give your body a chance to warm up.

Take a few minutes to walk, loosen up your joints, and perform some gentle dynamic movements before lifting, bending, reaching, or tackling that weekend project. And remember: use proper lifting technique, take breaks, and don’t try to power through pain.

A few extra minutes of preparation can go a long way toward helping you enjoy the long weekend without an unnecessary ache or injury.

Move smart. Work safely. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend! 🇺🇸
