Washington Township Fire Station 41 was built with today's firefighters in mind. From modern living spaces and improved functionality to thoughtful station design, the goal was to create an environment where crews can train, respond, recover, and spend long shifts more comfortably.

A healthier station also means cleaner air. That's why MagneGrip's source-capture exhaust removal system was integrated into the station, capturing diesel exhaust directly at the tailpipe before it can enter the apparatus bay or living areas. It's another way thoughtful station design helps support firefighter health from day one.

Fire smoke exposure doesn't necessarily end when the fire is out.

A 2025 Harvard study found that fire smoke exposure may continue affecting the immune system long after the fire is out, reinforcing the importance of reducing harmful exposures whenever possible. Researchers also observed changes in immune cell activation and identified toxic metals associated with immune cells at the single-cell level.

Reducing exposure to diesel exhaust and other airborne contaminants inside the fire station can be an important part of supporting firefighter health. Source-capture exhaust removal systems help remove diesel emissions before they enter the station environment.

Fine particulates can travel beyond the apparatus bay into living and sleeping areas. Firefighters may continue to breathe these contaminants long after the engine is turned off. MagneGrip delivers complete clean air solutions by combining source-capture exhaust removal with air purification and monitoring.

Heat stress and physical strain increase health risks for firefighters during summer shifts. When crews return to the station, their bodies need a clean environment to recover from high-intensity calls. AirHAWK systems continuously circulate station air through multi-stage filtration to support firefighter health.

Protecting firefighters starts inside the station.

Designed, manufactured, and supported in the USA, our systems help departments create healthier station environments while supporting firefighter health and operational readiness.

When the apparatus returns to the station after a call, the bay doors close and crews head back inside. But diesel exhaust and airborne particles don’t always stay in the apparatus bay. Station design and airflow planning help control how exhaust moves through the building and help protect firefighter health.

Harmful microorganisms like bacteria and viruses often bypass standard air filters. Research from Orysiak J. (2022) found that environmental exposures in firefighting can affect immune responses. Ultraviolet treatment within AirHAWK units helps address these microorganisms before returning purified air to the station.
