Hair thinning is rarely caused by just one factor. Genetics, hormones, nutrition, stress and underlying health conditions can all affect the scalp and hair follicles.

A compounding pharmacy can work with your healthcare provider to create a patient-specific approach that may:
• Address identified nutrient deficiencies that can contribute to shedding
• Support the production of structural proteins involved in hair strength
• Promote the nutritional environment needed for healthy follicle function
• Combine appropriate ingredients into one customized formulation
• Adjust the formulation based on laboratory results, health history and individual tolerability

If you’re concerned about hair thinning, ask your provider whether personalized nutritional or compounded support may be appropriate for you.

Medication isn’t always one-size-fits-all, especially for children.

A child may need a strength that isn’t commercially available, have difficulty swallowing a tablet, dislike a medication’s taste, or be sensitive to ingredients such as dyes, preservatives, lactose, or gluten.

A compounding pharmacist can work with the child’s healthcare provider to:
• Prepare a patient-specific dose based on the child’s clinical needs
• Create an easier-to-take liquid or chewable form when appropriate
• Add a more acceptable flavor to help make medication time less stressful
• Leave out certain inactive ingredients that may cause allergies or sensitivities
• Provide an alternative when a needed pediatric formulation is unavailable

Not every medication can be compounded into every form, so close collaboration among the provider, pharmacist, and caregiver is essential.

Chronic pain can affect daily movement, sleep, work and overall quality of life. It can also have many different causes, including arthritis, back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, cancer-related pain and nerve pain.

Because every patient’s experience is different, pain management may require an individualized approach. When a commercially available medication does not meet a patient’s needs, a compounding pharmacist can work with the provider to prepare:
• A patient-specific strength or dosage form
• A topical preparation for targeted application when appropriate
• One preparation containing multiple compatible ingredients
• Medication without certain dyes, fillers or preservatives
• An alternative dosage form when swallowing or tolerability is a concern

Compounded medications are not appropriate for every patient or every type of pain. They should be prescribed as part of a coordinated treatment plan and monitored by your healthcare provider.

Ask your provider whether compounded pain-management options may be appropriate for you.

Fungal skin concerns can look different depending on where they appear. Athlete’s foot, ringworm, nail fungus and yeast-related rashes may cause itching, redness, scaling, irritation or persistent changes to the skin or nails.

When a commercially available antifungal product does not meet a patient’s needs, our compounding pharmacist can work with the provider to prepare a customized option that may include:
• A patient-specific strength
• A dosage form suited to the treatment area, such as the skin, nails or moisture-prone areas
• A formulation designed with sensitive or irritation-prone skin in mind
• Multiple compatible ingredients combined into one prescription to simplify use

Because several skin conditions can have similar symptoms, an accurate diagnosis is important. Ask our compounding pharmacist for more information.

Muscle loss isn’t only a concern for much older adults. Age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, known as sarcopenia, can begin as early as a person’s 40s and often becomes more noticeable after age 60.

Several factors may contribute, including:
• Reduced physical activity
• Inadequate protein or micronutrient intake
• Chronic inflammation
• Hormonal changes
• Metabolic conditions such as insulin resistance

Supporting muscle health usually requires more than one strategy. Resistance and functional training, adequate nutrition, and evaluation of metabolic or hormonal factors may all be part of an individualized care plan.

If you have noticed changes in strength, balance or mobility, talk with your healthcare provider.

Low-dose naltrexone, commonly called LDN, is a non-opioid medication used for certain chronic pain and inflammatory conditions. It is being studied or prescribed for conditions such as:
• Neuropathic pain
• Fibromyalgia
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Crohn’s disease
• Endometriosis
• Migraines
• Complex regional pain syndrome

LDN is thought to affect immune and inflammatory signaling while influencing the body’s natural endorphin activity. However, research is still evolving, and results can vary by patient and condition.

Because commercially available naltrexone tablets typically come in higher strengths, a patient-specific low dose must be compounded.

Ask your healthcare provider whether LDN may be appropriate for your treatment plan.

Pain is more complex than simply “something hurts.” Persistent pain can be influenced by changes in the nervous system, the brain, psychosocial factors, neuroplasticity, immune responses, and more.

Understanding why pain occurs can help patients and healthcare providers think differently about how it may be managed. Movement, cognitive strategies, sleep, relaxation, nutrition, and other approaches may all play a role alongside individualized medical care.

Have questions about pain management options or how compounded medications may fit into an individualized treatment plan? Talk with our compounding pharmacist to learn more.

We hear this all the time: “I thought I was just stressed.”

But when your body feels constantly tired, overwhelmed, and unable to recover, it may be worth taking a closer look.

Burnout can show up physically, not just mentally, and factors such as sleep, blood sugar balance, stress, nutrition, and hormones may all play a role in how you feel.

Supporting your body may include:
- Prioritizing consistent, restorative sleep
- Keeping blood sugar balanced
- Finding realistic ways to manage stress
- Considering targeted supplementation when appropriate
- Exploring hormone testing, including cortisol and DHEA, with a qualified provider

If you’ve been pushing through fatigue and hoping it gets better on its own, you don’t have to keep guessing about what your body may be telling you. Talk with our team to learn more.

Perimenopause can look different for every woman, and symptoms may change over time.

Hot flashes, night sweats, disrupted sleep, mood changes, irregular periods, vaginal dryness, and changes in concentration or energy can all be part of the transition.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to care. Depending on your symptoms, health history, and individual needs, your healthcare provider may discuss lifestyle changes, nonhormonal options, FDA-approved hormone therapy, or, when appropriate, a customized compounded prescription.

Have questions about compounded hormone options? Talk with our compounding pharmacist to learn more and discuss what may be available with a prescription from your healthcare provider.

• Professional-grade nutritional supplements

These options may support areas such as cellular energy, metabolism, cognitive health, inflammation, and hormone balance when used appropriately under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
