I haven’t posted since February. Is this really a surprise? 🤣 I don’t want to glamorize being busy, but this small business thing is always a hustle. My social media “hat” always ends up on the shelf collecting dust, but hey—I’m making social media stuff for others. That counts for something, right? Right?!

Hopefully by now we’re all familiar with the cobbler who wears no shoes. I guess I could directly relate it to my clients by saying—I’m like the photographer with no family photos. I know you feel me.

A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn a reputation by doing hard things well. A brand is the same way. What things are you exceptionally good at within your business? If it's hard to see outside yourself, then think about it this way—what praise you get most often from your clients? Write it down! This praise (your talents) make up some of the core messages your brand should be communicating daily to help attract your people!

After my workcation (see previous post!), I've been in my rabbit hole feverishly working on client work and end of the year goals for 2020. I thought I'd pop in to show prove that I'm still alive and share one of my favorite designs from this year.

I created this double 'B' mark for my girl crush . Betsy is not only wildly talented, but I truly believe she's one of the sweetest souls in the photography industry. We share a love for minimalism and white space, so you know this project was a match made in heaven for my design style!

I just returned from the most inspiring, rejuvenating work trip I’ve ever been on. How did it happen? Because I allowed myself, for the first time since children and the death of my father, to act upon one of my wild, spontaneous, hair-brained ideas. I can’t even begin to explain how alive it made me feel.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I made the decision to leave my husband and children for five days (this is a big deal for me, people!) to have a workcation in the cutest Airbnb with . I spent every single day scheming and curating content for Ribbons of Red. I spoiled myself. I went to the beach every day. I ate amazing food every day. I created art every day. I had plans and desires, and I didn’t waiver. I got serious s**t done. As a creative, this is how I feed my soul. It’s been so long, and such a rough few years, that I almost forgot.

To quote PT Barnum, “Comfort is the enemy of progress.” Get out there and make things happen for yourself. Contrary to popular belief, good things do not come to those who wait. You have to get after it and make your own path by acting on your dreams and surround yourself with people who lift you up. That’s how you make things happen.

Are you having a hard time articulating who you are throughout your brand? My clients come to me feeling like they have too many ideas and too many loves, and they simply aren't sure what to do with all of it. This state of overwhelm is what I call your 'happy mess', and it's my job as a designer to "Marie Kondo" all of it into visual and verbal branding your dream clients will flock to. I'm sooooo jealous (and proud) of my past client Nichole Burnett Photography!!! She totally captured the "famous" flamingo couple yesterday night at her shoot in Destin, Florida! These flamingos have been seen all around Florida, and I can't believe they phootbombed her shoot last night! Can anyone else relate?! I sure can! 👋

I have a laundry list of things I want to do for 2017, and I always feel that scary "hesitation". Can I do it? Will people laugh? Will it hurt my business? Will I fail? Thanks for sharing this Nichole Burnett Photography and Mandy. I hope it circles around the industry!
