After birth, the people around you can make a big difference in how those early days feel.

Visitors often come to see the baby.

Support shows up to help the parents.

That might look like bringing a meal, folding laundry, holding the baby while you shower, or simply helping protect the calm of your space.

In the postpartum period, what new parents usually need most isn’t more visitors — it’s real support.

Newborns don’t suddenly become “needy” after birth.

For nine months they lived in a warm, rhythmic environment where they were constantly held, gently rocked, and always close to a heartbeat.

Being held helps regulate their breathing, temperature, and nervous system while they adjust to life outside the womb.

So if your baby wants to be in your arms most of the time, they’re not developing bad habits — they’re doing exactly what newborns are designed to do to feel safe.

A lot of people think skin-to-skin is just for the first hour after birth.

But it’s actually one of the most powerful tools parents have in the newborn weeks.

Fussy baby.
Feeding struggles.
Overstimulation.

Sometimes the answer is simply bringing baby back to your chest.

Simple doesn’t mean small. 🤍

The first 24 hours after birth are often more intense than people expect.

Labor may be over, but your body is still working hard — hormones shifting, your uterus contracting, and recovery beginning immediately. At the same time, the room can quickly fill with activity, visitors, and constant interruptions.

Protecting those early hours matters more than most people realize.

Slow things down.
Keep the space calm.
And give your body the time it needs to begin healing.

The first 24 hours after birth can feel intense.

Your body is recovering from labor while hormones shift, your uterus contracts, and sleep is often limited.

Meanwhile the room can feel busy with visitors, updates, and hospital staff.

Protecting that first day matters more than most people realize.

Rest when you can.
Keep the environment calm.
Let everything slow down and take the time needed to recover.

Labor gets all the attention.

But the first 24 hours after birth can be one of the most intense parts of the entire experience.

Your body is shifting fast, you’re exhausted, and the room is often full of activity.

Protect that first day as much as you can.

Recovery starts immediately after birth.

Partners often are wonderful labor support but they are not mind readers. It can be a lot of pressure for a dad or partner to be the expert on labor especially of they’ve never even seen a birth before.

This is more common than people admit. A quality birthing class can help you both prepare and having an experienced doula in the room can take the pressure off of your partner to remember all of the comfort measures, options that are available and advocacy needs. We’re here for both of you!

Postpartum isn’t meant to be rushed.

Healing takes time.
Adjusting takes time.
Becoming a mother takes time.

Be gentle with yourself in this season. 🤍

Softening into labor with movement, music, water- these are all helpful tools. The most effective is getting out of your head. Allowing the waves of contractions to melt you, overwhelm you a bit even. Knowing you’ll come back to your breath, you’ll be a break and your baby will be in your arms soon.

Strength ≠ control

Sometimes the real release is letting your body lead the way and getting out of your mind. Soften the edges as you feel the peak of the contraction and allow it to envelop you like a wave. And breath. Always come back to your breath.

This is a different kind of strength. It’s grit and softness working together as one.
