🌟 Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Kathryn Wikenheiser-Brokamp, MD, PhD

We’re proud to recognize Dr. Kathryn Wikenheiser-Brokamp for her dedication to research, patient care, education, and mentorship.

Her career journey has taken her from plans to become a high school science teacher to becoming a physician-scientist and pulmonary pathologist. At Cincinnati Children’s, she combines clinical care and research to better understand lung development and disease while helping train the next generation of physicians and scientists.

One lesson that has stayed with her throughout her career is simple but powerful: **every person matters.**

We appreciate Dr. Wikenheiser-Brokamp’s continued contributions, leadership, and commitment to those around her.

Why Cincinnati?

There’s more to fellowship than what happens at work, and Cincinnati gives you plenty to enjoy when the workday is over!

🌳 Beautiful parks & river views – From Smale Riverfront Park to Eden Park, there are plenty of places to walk, relax, and enjoy the city.

🍽️ A great food scene – Local favorites, international restaurants, coffee shops, Findlay Market… and yes, you have to try Cincinnati chili at least once. Whether you love it afterward is up to you. 😂

⚾🏈⚽ Sports everywhere – Reds, Bengals, FC Cincinnati… there’s almost always a game to catch.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign salivary gland neoplasm in children, yet its diverse histologic appearance can present diagnostic challenges. This virtual slide highlights classic biphasic architecture, abundant chondromyxoid stroma, and areas of squamous metaplasia—a well-recognized diagnostic pitfall.

In this case, a PLAG1 fusion was confirmed by next-generation sequencing (NGS), providing molecular support for the diagnosis.
