It can be easy to assume that once a child receives a transplant, everything goes back to normal. For families living it, the reality can be much more complicated.

Hillary Weidner shares advice her family received after her daughter’s transplant: don’t ride every high and low of the roller coaster. Instead, stay grounded, take things as they come and focus on caring for your child the best way you can.

A serious illness may have a defining moment, but for many families, navigating life afterward is a lifelong journey.

When 4-month-old Nissiela arrived at Cincinnati Children’s, a rare tumor at the base of her skull was pressing on her airway and brainstem, making it difficult for her to eat, breathe and grow. Our skull base team helped her gain strength before successfully removing nearly all of the fast-growing tumor.

Today, Nissiela is thriving at home. While she continues feeding and occupational therapies and has hearing loss in her left ear, she keeps reaching new milestones and, most importantly, gets to enjoy life outside the hospital.

This month several of our volunteers transformed a new sensory calming room to support the mental health of youth using services at Lighthouse Youth Services' Mecum House.

The Corryville shelter provides a safe haven for kids who can't be with their families because of incarceration, hospitalization or other reasons.

Our volunteers gave the space a deep clean, hung wallpaper to create an accent wall, and added furniture and inspirational signs. They also provided sensory activities, a mini basketball hoop and art supplies.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to creating a calming, welcoming space where local kids can feel safe and supported.

This week's highlights the team behind RettEd Day, hosted by Cincinnati Children's in partnership with the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. 💜

Families caring for a loved one with Rett syndrome came together to connect, learn from one another, and hear about the latest research and practical strategies for daily care. The event also introduced families to our nationally recognized Rett Clinic, a Center of Excellence dedicated to providing specialized, multidisciplinary care.

Rett syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder that affects nearly every aspect of a person's life. Because every individual experiences Rett syndrome differently, events like RettEd Day help families build community while accessing expert support and resources.

Join us in celebrating this incredible team and their commitment to improving the lives of patients and families affected by Rett syndrome.
