Meet Margo!
My name is Margo. I am a 42-year-old mother and artist helping manage our micro-farm and creative homestead on our suburban half acre in southwest Ohio. I am documenting my health journey as I work in tandem with Melissa at Lotus and Light Wellness Center.
A few months ago my eyes were opened. I had a health scare, which made me have to take a good look at myself.
For years I had been looking at everything and everyone else around me, but not at myself. I began caring more for those around me and their needs, putting them and their wants first. The idea of working on myself was hard, and I used caring for others as an excuse. The more I neglected myself, the more blinders I put up. Mirrors that once were all over my home slowly started to disappear. The mirrors that remained were placed up high, so as not to see below the chest. Family photos all became selfies or images where I could hide most of my own body. Pictures others took were deleted and forgotten, so I could continue to live in a state of denial. As time continued to pass, I began justifying that there wasn't enough time, that all the other things were more important. The reason I was tired all the time was because of external causes, not my own physical condition. I was no longer important to myself. I was my own afterthought. What I needed or looked like didn't matter anymore. I had lost myself.
So when my eyes were finally opened to the years of neglect I had put on my own body, I knew I needed to open them wider and see the reality of who I had actually become. Reality is hard to face, but I had to. I have to take my life back, for myself and for my family.
As I begin this journey to better my health, I need to first forgive. Forgive myself. I need to forgive the person with the never-ending excuses. She was just scared. My own guilt is the first weight I need to lose. I have to let the anger I am holding inside myself go, so those spaces can be filled with the positive changes I am making. There is no more hiding. The mirrors are all back up. I won't close my eyes anymore.
What are my goals?
Improving my overall health is the primary goal. I have already started consuming a more educated diet and started a daily routine of exercise. However, I found myself asking, what more could I do for my mind, body and spirit? As I asked this to the universe on another sleepless night, a connection was made. I don't know if it was magic, manifestation, or prayer that brought Melissa into my life, but she has opened a new path to healing and my own rejuvenation at Lotus and Light Wellness Center.
Together we have begun to map the right modalities, frequencies, and cadence for my body, creating a personalized plan in combination with what I am already doing for myself.
This week I have begun using red light therapy for my skin recovery and inflammation. The Swiss Med Bed for my circulation, joint and bone health. A frequency session on a Vibroacoustic bed for my sleep, pain, and to reset my nervous system. It made me more aware of my body than anything I had done until this point. The memory alone of the way my body felt, from the tingling in my fingers to the vibrations settled in my chest, is a memory that even now sends me to a place of calm.
Before walking into my first sessions I was losing sleep. My body fatigue and anxiety were at an all-time high. The last couple of weeks had been high stress, with multiple projects and life changes coming to completion. So I did not know what to expect walking through the doors of Lotus and Light this week. I did not expect the wall of calm that would settle over me. The level of comfort I would feel in my body. My own anxiety felt washed away, leaving me with an open heart and mind to heal. I am going to get healthier. I am going to find my confidence again.
My goal is to create a synergy between what I am already doing and the treatments the center offers. Overall health is the primary goal. Together we're mapping out the right modalities, frequencies, and cadence for my body. Melissa is personalizing a plan that complements the steps I'm already taking.
I am on my feet all day. I have arthritis in both knees and deal with joint and body pain on a daily basis. For our lifestyle, taking much time to get off my feet is not an option. Pain impacts my abilities throughout the day, and I literally push through the pain. Living with this pain has just become a part of my life. As the weight loss and healing continue, I want to eliminate this way of thinking. I realize that pain is my body waving a flag for change.
